This post is in response to the Hive Naija prompt with the question:
What business do you admire people doing that you've never tried before and may never try?
I admire those who venture into business making and are doing well in it. The way I see many of them on my WhatsApp status advertising their products and are always consistent everyday for customers to come around, I hail them, seriously, because I could imagine them waking up each day with the thought of how they are going to bring more people, how sales would troop in and the important part is trying to restock their finished goods.
Business is a good thing, and once you can find your way in it, particularly getting legit customers that will patronise you every time, you have made it in life. Let's not talk about the stress involved, but when you are passionate about it, I don't think complaining too much about how hectic it feels should be a big concern. After all, no business or work involving money is without its hassles. Everyone is hustling.
It made me remember my time back in school where I sold recharge cards digitally. I don't need to move out of my room since everything could be done on my phone through a website I registered with.
Another time was before I gained admission, when I ventured into making liquid soaps and snacks, selling to those who'd resell them again. I was the wholesaler while they were the retailer. Sometimes, the thought of going out to distribute would hold me down but the reminder that I needed to do it got me up. It was not easy.
I stopped after entering the university and decided that the line of business isn't for me. I can't keep up with the whole stress thing and don't think I have the strength and mouth to persuade my customers. No, not me. Anything that involves marketing, count Princess out.
But if there is a business I do admire that people do today, but I can't is the perfume business. These people who come around with different kinds of perfumes, roll-ons, and oils, they can sweet-talk you and before you know it, you are already convinced.
I had a lady during my service year who used to bring her new products of perfume and oils to me. If I don't want to spend money that day, I would eventually because of how she'd persuaded me to get even if it's just one. But I like her. She has a way of persuading and convincing her customers of her products and she sells nice stuff.
I used to see most of them on my status, how they would market their products and even tell you the perfect one for you to pick, which you won't regret, and it always worked.
Sometimes, I feel ashamed of myself for not knowing good perfumes with the best scent as a lady. I just pick anyone I find that smells nice and I'm off. This is why I verify from these vendors which perfume scents are nice before I get them, and they don't lie. That's why I love to buy from those who wouldn't sugarcoat their products just because they want to sell and make a gain.
I wouldn't even try venturing into such a business because I'm so bad at choosing nice perfumes for you. You'd be the one telling me which is good in the end. Lol, I don't like business like that, but I appreciate those in it because of their persuasive skill and their consistency.
I wouldn't even stay long in a business before I close shop because I'm not someone who'd want to travel to get my goods somewhere, or even wait for them to arrive through riders, or anyone, or go through the stress at all. I don't know how to look for customers, and I could give up too quickly in things like this, especially if I don't get customers quickly. The bad part is now selling on credit and in the end, you might end up quarrelling with half of your customers to pay your money 😄
