It is expected of us to always show respect to everyone who is older than we are. Being disrespectful is being frown upon so much here in Africa especially this part of Africa, Nigeria: and it is likely for the older one to correct that disrespect. As a Nigerian and a Yoruba guy, I realised that my tribe and its morals, culture, belief has a high display of respect and also has a high demand for it. There have been countless times where I was corrected for doing something wrong or not and I will be sharing one of them.
A long time ago, should be around 2018. . . . . . . . . .
I was using a Tecno Y2 phone: that phone taught me a lot of patience because it was so slow and doesn't have a lasting battery. I don't do much on the phone, I watch movies, play games, chat and call, there was nothing like earning online. Oh, I used to love watching comedy skits those days and videos of popular guys playing drum or other instrument. I was still very young and was about to graduate from secondary school at that time.
The popular movie Black Panther was released, of course, everyone who is a Marvel fan who had been anticipating was so happy to watch the movie. And the wakanda greeting became a popular thing in my area and school, later on, the image of the Black Panther was printed on shirts and bags, it was almost everywhere. Here is where the real fans came in, we had the picture of the black panther as our wallpaper, lock screen, whatsapp backgroud and every other place it could fit inside our phone... we had different pictures.

There is or used to be a mentality or belief of anything that looks so strange to be evil, something related to the devil or hell: this is so common among elderly ones back then. So there was this particular day, a Sunday, I went to church with my family and there was common among the teenagers or youth then to always charge phones in church, our charger must go to church with us and some even bring extension sockets incase there is no available socket to plug in charger.
After service, we went back home and I realised I left my phone in church, I couldn't believe it. How could I have forgotten my phone ?. My mum helped me call the pastor's wife to inform her and luckily she had found the phone before my mom called, so my mom told her the phone she found was mine and I would come get it soon.
I went back to the church and met the pastor's wife at the entrance of the church gate..... that was where the lecture began, I never expected that. She started with something like "children of nowadays" ........ besides, when you hear this from a elderly person in Nigeria, just know you are in for a long talk. She asked what sort of picture did I use as my phone screen lock ? At first I was confused (she hasn't even given me my phone yet) then she pressed the power button so the locked screen can appear and show the Black Panther wallpaper on it. I was like "Oh, that's from a movie I watched" she said why watch such devilish movie, that the image of the black panther was looking like an idol or a god. I exclaimed "arrrrrghhhh" in my mind because the thing weak me (means...I was shocked).
To me she was exaggerating who black panther was and I understood that she could not relate to the kind of movies we watch. She took it so serious, so, I didn't defend Black Panther not being a god or idol, I nodded to all her advise to me to be careful and also to delete it from my phone: she then gave me my phone after she was done talking (in my mind, all I was concerned about was her giving me my phone back so I can leave😂😂)
I was so happy when I left her presence and took a cab back home, I had enough gist for my siblings and friends. I got home and after repoting to my parent that I had gotten the phone back, I went straight to my siblings and friends in the parlour. I started the narration of the event by laughing out loud, then I told them about it. They couldn't hide how shocked they were and also laughed about it. One of them asked why I didn't explain myself, I said it was impossible to have explained myself because she was dead serious and me trying to defend myself would be seen as disrespect and it would prolong the matter.
I removed the picture of the Black Panther from my lock screen, I did that just to be safe incase she ask to see my phone next time we meet.
