Life Without Light: My Experience with NEPA
If there’s one thing that unites every Nigerian, it’s the NEPA shout. You know it — that joyful scream of “UP NEPA!” whenever electricity returns, as if light is some special visitor we’ve been waiting for all year.
Living in Nigeria without steady electricity is like living with an unpredictable friend. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they disappear without warning, and you’re just left in the dark — literally.
😂 The Funny Side of NEPA
Just when you want to iron your clothes for an event → NEPA takes light.
You put food in the freezer, thinking it’s safe → next day, everything has thawed.
You finally decide to charge your phone to 100% → at 32%, phew, darkness again.
Every Nigerian has their NEPA story, and honestly, these moments make us laugh at ourselves. If light was a human being, NEPA would be that friend who borrows your things and never returns them on time.
💡 The Motivational Side of Darkness
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Darkness makes us appreciate light. If we always had 24/7 electricity, we might never shout “UP NEPA!” with so much joy.
Challenges build creativity. Because of NEPA, we have generators, rechargeable lamps, inverters, and even jokes that keep us sane.
Struggles teach patience. We may sit in the heat waiting for light, but life is teaching us endurance in the process.
🌍 My Personal Reflection
Whenever NEPA takes light, I remind myself that life itself is like electricity. Sometimes, things are bright and smooth, and sometimes things go dark. But just as we wait for power to return, we must also wait for better seasons in life.
The key is not to give up. Even in darkness, there’s always a spark of hope. And when the light finally comes, we rejoice — not just because we can see again, but because we survived the waiting.
✨ Conclusion
NEPA may frustrate us, but it also unites us. It reminds us of our resilience, our humour, and our ability to keep moving forward despite challenges.
So next time the light goes off, don’t just complain — smile, laugh, and remember that even darkness can teach us powerful lessons about life.
And when it comes back, shout it with pride: “UP NEPA!” ⚡🇳🇬
