Some people think they can go free after committing a war crime but the truth behind committing a war crime is that despite how many years one committed the crime, The International Criminal Court known as (ICC) will still investigate the case and if one is found guilty he/she will be punished by the court order.
War crimes are expected to be avoided by The International Criminal Court during war or conflict especially when it has to do with civilian lives and properties. Surely, one must be investigated. Just in the case of Liberia which happened between the 1990s and 2000s, the court still revisited the case that warranted the arrest of the war crime offender in the UK.
The undisclosed suspect who was arrested in the early hours of today was said to have committed a war crime during the Liberia 1990s to that 2000s civil war which was disclosed according to the metropolitan officers for investigation. According to the AP report, the Liberia 1990s to that 200s war crime suspect who was arrested by the UK was metropolitan counter-terrorism police identity will still not be disclosed publicly because it’s against the UK policy until the suspect is been charged by The International Criminal Court.
The Liberia civil war suspect who is suspected of committing a war crime is said to have been in the investigation since last year following a referral and was later arrested in his 40s this year in Newcastle.
BBC reported that during the Liberia 1990s to the 2000s that over 250,000 people were killed without remorse while thousand of women especially teenagers was raped.
Once a person is suspected of committing a war crime that is against the UK’s Jurisdiction it must be in the line with a crime against humanity, torture, and genocide. The person must be investigated and arrested if the need arises. The metropolitan police force team will always do their best to carry out the act not minding the location of the suspect because the law is applicable in the whole world.
