It cut my attention to talk about the recent killing in Benue state. The killing is becoming a very serious issue that needs to be addressed by the federal and state governments of Nigeria. Why I find out the time to talk about this report about the recent killing in one of the local governments in Benue state is that the state has faced killing by the Bokoharam and herdsmen for years now and they are still facing the same challenge to date.
Friday night Vanguard reported that there was a killing by armed herdsmen that took the life of both mother, father, children, pregnant women and many more. According to the report, a mother narrated how she witnessed the killing of her 10 years old daughter like a chicken by the armed herdsmen. The woman said it was very unbearable witnessing the killing of her 10 years child without her finding a solution to rescue her.
My intake in the killing is that following the Vanguard report, it was gathered that the armed herdsmen invaded the IDPs known as the Internally Displaced Person's camp which was carried out in the LGEA primary school Mgban in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State and murdered more than 40 person's, especially that of children. The report still has it that there were a good number of policemen on duty at the Makurdi Lafia road junction before the armed herdsmen stormed their checkpoint and overpowered the policemen with their AK47 riffles, machete, dagger, and other weapons.
I wonder why the government will keep allowing insecurity in the state and even the policemen who happen to be on duty and are supposed to protect the lives and properties of people were not fully armed as the herdsmen. Does it mean that there is no hope for people's survival in Benue state or does it mean that people living in Benue state are self-safeguarded and protect themselves with weapons?
I don't think it'll be a good thing for people to start running or going to work with self-protected weapons all in the name of insecurity in the state. imagine how a mother narrated how she witnessed the killing of her 10yrs daughter at the hands of the herdsmen without her helping the deceased. Do you know the kind of pain that this could have caused the woman?
Sometimes, I do ask myself where the murdered herdsmen keep their conscience and killed more than 40 people overnight. What a shame that they also killed innocent children that knows nothing. I ask God to judge them all.
I pray and hope that the Federal and state governments should proffer more solutions in the hands of security men. At least this will give hope to the citizens of the country.
