Even though I think the indictment against Trump is stupid and is just so obviously politically motivated, I really don't want to see various states go to war and abuse judicial powers just for the sake of getting revenge. As soon as the announcement of Trump being arrested in NYC and a part of NYC that is around 85% liberal, I thought right as I saw the news that if they go through with this, very conservative parts of the United States are simply going to do the same thing but in reverse.
Lo' and behold, here we are not that long later and there is talk of precisely that happening in red states.
Some political pundit named Ari Fleisher had this to say
“I earnestly hope that conservative prosecutors in rural areas of America indict Bill Clinton, indict Hillary Clinton, indict Hunter Biden. The only way to stop this and return to the norms is for one side to realize if they go too far, the other will match them."
While what he is saying has some sort of merit to it, is this really how we want our country to operate? If one side does something crazy and seems borderline illegal, certainly unethical, is the answer for the other side to do the same thing? This sort of logic is the very reason why all news is fake news these days. I don't know who did it first, but the response of the other side was to become equally as biased and ridiculous as the other side, with each of them responding with statistical manipulation and selective quoting to the point where you can't trust anything you see or read in the news anymore.
If we were to take this same idea to the courts, I think the end result could only be a very bad thing.
It is already being talked about in very conservative counties in places such as Kentucky and Tennessee, that grand juries in these places should indict their political enemies such as the Bidens and the Clintons as well. Members of Congress are already being contacted by attorneys and PAC's about how they can go about pressing charges against prominent Democrats. These rural areas in question have a similar political makeup as Manhattan, but only in reverse. Just like Trump is very unlikely to get a truly fair trial in Manhattan, the Dems are unlikely to find a jury of their peers un rural America.
This is not the way forward and as childish as it sounds "two wrongs do not make a right." The last thing our country needs right now is more frivolous lawsuits that are completely political in nature rather than pursuing actual justice. This also ends up costing taxpayers money, since judges and jurors don't go to work for free. Another downside of all of this is that it will become political theater and just add more fuel to the fire that is the rather intense political divide that exists in the United States.
As silly as I think the case against Trump is, I really hope that conservatives don't go ahead with this plan to "tit for tat." This can only end badly for everyone involved.
