This is the question Jordan Peterson, a known psychologist and public speaker and Roman Baber, a Canadian lawyer and politician are discussing. The discussion (linked below) is worth checking out.
Now I think the point overall is valid - the idea promoted not just in Canada but in the US and elsewhere was that instead of discussing issues related to COVID we had to "trust the doctors", or "trust the scientists", but not all, but the "right" ones, and especially those in the employ of out governments. Raising any doubts could lead to you being labeled a "conspiracy theorist", being deplatformed, fired from your job in healthcare and elsewhere, etc. And it seemed like no mention was allowed of the fact that, under most circumstances, government-employed scientists were neither the best in their chosen fields, nor operating under conditions where their employment was linked to their aptitude and performance as scientists. Nor, by the way, are such experts elected.
So this is really a matter of whether this delegation of authority has created a mass crisis of representative government around the world.
