The video linked below is of Alyson Morrow, an American journalist, interviewing Alexandra Kitty, a Canadian journalist and a psychologist. This ended up being a very interesting discussion, and I highly recommend watching this interview.
One point that really impressed me was the notion that mainstream journalism is very big on the idea of their industry's self importance and the notion that there are ideas they should platform, and the ones that absolutely should not. That effectively creates a cult-like culture of predetermined acceptance of one set of ideas and rejection of others. The debate within the range of acceptable ideas is still OK - but a significant set of ideas, some of them potentially quite popular, are "cancelled" by default. I must say I never thought of it this way - and this notion seems to be largely accurate.
Watch the interview - well worth it.
