What happened at the NATO summit in Madrid, with Kurdish and Turkish dissidents handed over to an Islamist dictator, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in exchange for the green light for the hitherto neutral Sweden and Finland to join the Atlantic Alliance, to oppose the dictator Vladimir Putin, who invaded Ukraine, is a masterpiece of hypocrisy and bad faith that demonstrates, if ever needed, the double standard used by Western democracies when it comes to justifying their filth, omissions and wrongdoing. We are talking about the same governments that are horrified by the Russian special operation in Ukraine and that for years have been silent on Turkey's special operation in Syrian Rojava, we are talking about the same chancelleries that call for democracy and freedom for the Ukrainian people but for decades they have watched without lifting a finger a NATO country, Turkey, denying autonomy and freedom to the Kurdish people, they watch Erdoğan bomb, besiege, oppress the Kurdish cities of Turkey, repress all opposition, outlaw political parties Kurds and arrest parliamentarians and activists.
We have all read the headlines where it was said that Turkey has given the green light to the entry into NATO of Sweden and Finland, an event considered as a great success of the Atlantic alliance, while instead it was the signal of great moral weakness and poverty, also of Europe and the political elites of individual countries: in fact, things are very differently compared to the reports produced by information so pathologically lying that it gives the impression of having lost the map of truth and no longer knowing where the truth is. The truth is instead that the West, in order to spite Russia, has granted a great strategic victory to Erdogan whose consequences will be felt for a long time in the future.
In Kobane on October 2014, the Syrian Kurds risked massacre with the black flag of the Caliphate flying just 400 meters from the front line. The Iraqi Kurds had meanwhile flocked to defend their positions from the advance of ISIS.
At that time the Kurds were our heroes, acclaimed as the defenders of the front against barbarism, and now, to bring Sweden and Finland into NATO, they have sold their lot and their much acclaimed Western values to Erdogan.
Because this is what we are talking about when reading the memorandum signed by the foreign ministers of Turkey, Sweden and Finland. Point 8 of the document provides, on the basis of information provided by Turkey, the extradition of PKK members, as alleged terrorists, but also of members of affiliated organizations such as the Kurdish-Syrian YPG, the militias that protect the existence of Rojava, a secular, multi-ethnic and multi-religious political experiment that we should preserve.
NATO agreed in Madrid to support and adopt the Turkish state's policy of massacres and genocides against the Kurdish people for one hundred years. The fact that the achievements, values, freedom and struggle of the Kurdish people are the subject of negotiations for NATO enlargement is a declaration of hostility against the Kurdish people. The agreement reached in Madrid between Finland, Sweden and Turkey, which is in line with the policy defined by the Turkish government, shows the hypocrisy of a system that defines itself as Western democracy. The true face of this system thus revealed itself once again. The support for the Kurds decided by the Swedish Social Democrats during their party congress was swept away, which shows that anything can be negotiated to suit the interests of the state.
In all this, no mention is made of the fact that Turkey occupies parts of Syrian and Iraqi territory, which systematically bombards not only the armed militias but also civilians, Kurds, Syrians, Iraqis, including the Yezidis, precisely those who suffered the most the massacres and rapes of jihadists. Finland and Sweden will also lift the ban on arms sales to Ankara.
In a nutshell, it is a green light across the board for Erdogan to do what he wants in northern Syria, in Iraq and, of course, also in Turkish Kurdistan where cities like Cizre have been razed to the ground in past years.
In reality, we are giving the Kurdish killer Erdogan all the satisfaction he wants. While the Sultan can boast of having brought Sweden and Finland into NATO, making them reasonable allies in his eyes, at the same time he is in talks with Washington for a new F-16 fighter and perhaps the United States will also unlock the F-35, if he forgoes other supplies of Moscow's S-400 anti-missile batteries.
