Greetings to my esteemed friends on the InformationWar platform and the entire hive blockchain. It's another day and time to share about the ill actions taken against activists in Russia and how the Russian government is trying to trample on the freedom of expression of Journalists who are against the war in Ukraine. It's your friend , saying hello from this part of the world.
Many Russian Journalists have in one way or the other supported the Russian annexation of Kremlin since 2014 by reporting propaganda to the whole world until the current invasion of Ukraine in February 24 this year.
Former Russian state TV journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who interrupted a live news broadcast with an anti-war protest and was accused of spreading “fake news” about the war in Ukraine, has fled the country after escaping from house arrest, according to her lawyer.Source
In March, one of the State TV reporter interrupted a live news session with an inscription that reads: NO WAR. This according to the Russian government is a crime against the state and should be punished accordingly.
Prior to her current escape from house arrest, she had been offered asylum by the French President Emmanuel Macron but she refused the offer and said that she wasn't going to leave her country.
She was arrested, charged with disparaging the Russian military and fined 30,000 roubles ($270 at the time).
The Kremlin denounced her protest as “hooliganism”.Source
Her arrest and subsequent fine of 30,000 ($270) came after she led a protest in July carrying a plack card calling Vladimir Putin a murderer and the two months house arrest is to end this October, but her lawyer said she'd escaped to one of the European countries. He also refused to mention the country she fled to because of her safety.
On October 5, Ovsyannikova posted on the Telegram messenger app that she escaped the house arrest, saying, “I consider myself completely innocent, and since our state refuses to comply with its own laws, I refuse to comply with the measure of restraint imposed on me”.Source
I think her escape from Russia is a step in the right direction and also is an attempt to protect herself from human right violation, most especially that of her rights of association and freedom of expression, which is a law in the Russian state.
She faces up to 10 years in prison on charges of spreading fake news about Russia’s armed forces if found guilty.
Her lawyer informed reuter that she fled Russia with her daughter while her son is still in Russia and they needed some weeks before they can tell the world her whereabout.
My humble submission is that the Russian federation should respect everyone's views about the ongoing war in Ukraine and Journalists should be given free-hand to carry out their duties to promote freedom of information as permitted by the international community.
Thanks!
Grace and peace to you all
