Greetings to my esteemed Info-Warriors, it's a good day for me and I know that it's also good for you in your various countries. We're still in the business of bringing you truth through journalism and reports from all over the world. It's your friend saying good morning from Nigeria.
Today's news will focus on the event that happened in December 2020 during the lockdown era in the UK, which saw some law makers becoming law breakers.
Remember that in December 2020 during the heat of the covid-19 pandemic, the UK government placed a tougher tier 3 restrictions that means no mixing indoors by any outsider and this was to be adhered by every UK citizens due to the severity of the covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, the government's guidance for the Christmas period specifically said: "Although there are exemptions for work purposes, you must not have a work Christmas lunch or party, where that is a primarily social activity and is not otherwise permitted by the rules in your tier."Source
Even with this restrictions in place which was put up by the government itself, the Prime Minister and some other government officials were above the law to break the laws that they've put in place to avoid the further spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
Looking at the exemptions above you would still find out that there was no room for a Christmas lunch party which the Prime Minister attended.
Lord David Wolfson one of the government officials that attended the party at Number 10 Downing street in December 2020 has resigned from his position as Minister.
His resignation came in few days after the Prime Minister Johnson and Sunak were fined for breaking the covid-19 restriction law in 2020.
In his resignation letter he said that:
"scale, context and nature" of Covid breaches in government was inconsistent with the rule of law.
He added that he had "no option" other than to resign, given his "ministerial and professional obligations" in this area.Source
This action to me is a the behavior of a true Statesman. This is because as a defender of Human rights, you must obey and keep the law that you took oath to protect.
"It is not just a question of what happened in Downing Street, or your own conduct," he wrote to the PM. "It is also, and perhaps more so, the official response to what took place."Source
His letter to the PM shows that there are other things that happened on that faithful day that hasn't been revealed to the general public. I'm thinking that if the further actions is revealed, it might be detrimental to the Mr Johnson's position as British PM. Let's leave that for another day discussion.
But both the prime minister and Mr Sunak have so far rejected calls to resign, instead insisting they want to get on with their jobs.Source
Let's see how long it will take them to sustain their office before they quit it. It'll take serious push from the public and the news medias to make the PM and his friend to resign from their office.
Finally, Lord Wolfson's resignation is a sign of bravery and we all wish him success in his future endeavors.
