¿What does Ukraine mean to Ukrainians?
The Ukrainians emerged from the medieval state of Kyivan Rus’—the same state from which the Russians and Belarusians also emerged—eventually to become, like the Irish or the Slovaks, a land-based colony of other empires. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Ukrainian noblemen learned to speak Polish and participated in Polish-court life; later some Ukrainians strived to become part of the Russian-speaking world, learning Russian and aspiring to positions of power first in the Russian empire, then in the Soviet Union.
The world currently remains vigilant and concerned about a developing hostile conflict that could potentially have disastrous consequences for a significant region of the globe if not the entire planet. And although I already tried to touch on the subject slightly in a previous post. Perhaps now is the best time to address it in greater depth. But again, from a historical point of view!
So, let's check some facts...
"Some Latest News"
"Ukraine's History"
"Russia's History"
I start this article with this couple of excellent animation videos since they illustrate in a very informative way the roots of what has been a long conflict that goes back several centuries in history to show us a fight between relatives that doesn't seem to finish yet. Certainly it is only a brief historical summary of what has been happening in the area for several centuries. But I hope that it will serve as a catalyst to better understand what we are currently witnessing today and what I am going to share next. Since in my opinion I consider that it is fundamental that we understand this specific matter first of all. So, let's continue with this illustrated story.
"Russia without Ukraine is a country. But Russia with Ukraine is an empire"
"More Historical Events"
"Ukraine-Russia Crisis Today"
And last but not least. I am going to end this article with a couple of very illuminating videos about the Ukraine-Russia conflict using the words of the veteran journalists and political analysts Masha Gessen and Fabrizio Casaris in a couple of interviews they offered through alternative media outlets that might explain more clearly what lies behind the mentality and attitude of Vladimir Putin having initiated this armed incursion into the neighboring country.
However, what I really want to highlight from these interviews and on the specific topic that I'd wish you focus your attention when watching these last videos. It is about the insightful analysis that both journalists carry out throughout the interview about some events in recent history and that have to do specifically with the elements of the quote that I am going to describe right below.
Ethnic violence did happen in balkans 1990's as soviet union collapsed. Also in 1999 NATO attacked Serbia creating Kosovo out of it. So, this is what Russia is using now as a preventive movement and strategic example of what to do in Ukraine. Since on Crimea, Russia didn't annexed Crimea but it was the population of Crimea who decided by referendum to belong to Russia. However the decisions led by the US on Kosovo's secession were not made by people's referendum.
"The reference point here is the air war in Kosovo in 1999"
"USA fears losing its position of world dominance"
According to Fabrizio Casaris, the current conflict in Ukraine is nothing more than a war invented, engineered and fomented by the United States of America fueled by the Western media in what could be classified as a fifth generation war from a mediatic, economic, geopolitical and military point of view.
And that in front of the fast and powerful development of China. In an eventual stronger military, economic and commercial alliance with Russia, both countries united together means that the United States sees its current unipolar domination of the planet threatened to death. A transitory and privileged position of world hegemony (in decline) that they are not willing to share with anyone yet.
I lament that this excellent interview is spoken only in Spanish. However, if you click on the player's gear icon and select the "Automatic Translation" option to activate the subtitles. There will appear the options to translate it into multiple languages. That even though it won't be a perfect translation to the letter, it will at least give you a close idea of what is being talked about in the video during the interview. For its quite unusual informative quality, I think it's really worth a try.
The eye opening content of the video really relevant on the subject that concerns us today goes from the start of it until the 00:32:49 minute of the interview. So you can really skip the rest of the interview from there on. That although it is also related to the main topic, they also begin to focus on other matters.
On my to-do list at the moment, I plan to upload and publish that specific segment of the video with English subtitles with a more faithful, insync and accurate translation of what is said there. Since, in my opinion, the reflective, unique and alternative information of what is affirmed there in contrast to what is spread by the mass media, it is well worth sharing with greater scope and diffusion about the real problem in Ukraine. Wish me luck. I will try to do what I can. :)
