You can spend 99 days being there for others, offering help, lending support, giving your time and energy without a second thought. Yet, on the one day you focus on yourself… the day you can’t give… that day becomes the one everyone remembers.
It makes you question your own heart… whether helping people is even worth it sometimes. Because in the end, the moment you stop showing up, you may still be labelled the bad person, no matter how many times you sacrificed for them before.
Why do people choose to remember only the bad you did, and forget all the countless good you have done for them?
There is a family I always showed up for because I knew their financial situation. Whenever they needed help, I gave what I could. Over time, their requests grew, first the mother, then the daughters. They even started asking for school fees and textbooks, which I had to turn down, though I still helped with small things like feeding. Eventually, it became overwhelming, and I began saying no.
One day, one of the daughters saw me on the street and turned away, pretending not to see me. Before, she would have shouted my name and greeted me warmly. But the moment I stopped giving, I was no longer relevant. It makes me wonder, do people only want and respect us for what we provide?
Most people wonder why they had so many friends when they were rich, but the moment the riches are gone, no one visits or wants to be around them.

That is the true nature of humans; most stay only for the benefit, and when the benefit stops, so do they.
It took me some time to truly know people for who they are, and the experiences I have gained have taught me who and what to prioritize.
I am now at a point where I put myself and my family first, and everyone else comes after. I have stopped trying to please others, knowing that when misfortune strikes, no one will be there for me except my family.
The person who stands by me in my toughest moments also deserves my care and attention when things are good.
Sit, think, and ask yourself: if something bad happened to me today, whether sickness, financial crisis, or any hardship, who would truly stand with me? Those are the people who deserve your love, attention, and priority right now
