Sci-fi fictions, either in movies, comics or texts, have tried to present a life or a world where a lot is possible. The unbelievable and unrealistic things become realities somehow. Talk of time travelling, the incomprehensible devices and gadgets we sometimes see from the creations and portrayals of such in movies and the like of other works of fiction.
As a child, I kind of looked at these “possibilities” and desired them. It's like saying a child who watched superhero movies does not desire to become one? I doubt that. For me, it was admirable to step into these possibilities which looked possible then. Grown up, we all know better. Science is great, wonderful and powerful, but not without limits.
For the sake of the prompt, I'd like to travel down that path and consider the possibility of a device invented which can predict the future. You know that would be a game-changer right? In the world we find ourselves today, especially my part of it where one's labours seem not to be yielding commensurate results, many people could welcome this invention with open hands.
We've found ourselves sometimes questioning if indeed the work we put in is worth it. Maybe if we could know the future, we would know better what to do, right? I consider that at the first instance of knowing such a device exists, I would be interested to have a check. We're curious beings, and our curiosities could lead us where we might not even want to go normally; and my curiosity could lead me to it.
Such an invention would be a great deal and business for whoever invented it. Although we need to remember that people have been going to mediums and fortune tellers to know about their future. But maybe it could be different with science. However, one effect I see is that this invention could break and break people. How do I mean?
For someone who discovered that they have this bright and luxurious future, they could end up becoming lukewarm and relaxed about life. The things we know can either strengthen or weaken us. I also want to express that everyone has a bright future. No one was created to become nothing or to have a bad and wracked future. The plans towards us are always of good and not of evil.
The unknown is not really a bad thing. Sometimes it's best not to know some things. When we try to look into the future, we will certainly see good things, and bad as well. In the future, we might see people we love that we lost. And like “Flash” in the DC Universe movie “The Flash” we could end up breaking the fabric of time and reality by trying to alter what should be. It's a difficult thing to “know” the future.
When we talk of seeing the future, the narrative is usually around the good things, forgetting that life now and in the future would not always be a bed of roses. While this could be a wonderful and game-changing invention, I would rather sit tight with my caprisone drink and watch life unfold before me as I make diligent and daily efforts for a better future; with hope, belief and trust.
What should be better realised is that, we know the future we want and we should know that a beautiful future was planned for us. Our part is to walk in the right path, take the right steps, make the right, necessary decisions and trust for the best to come. For all I care, the device could even get things wrong or mixed up.
