As money is coming in, it is already going out on bills. The future of the average seemed to be a mere dream.
The current rate of inflation has even worsened the situation. Some people's salaries are not even enough to meet basic needs talk more of to save.
The prices of goods kept going higher and higher. It's as if each day you go to the market, there is an increment in the price of goods, and honestly, this is making life unbearable.
This persistent rise in goods prices has made money and labor less valuable. Imagine you spent a whole month working only to earn what will not sustain you for another month. It's so pathetic.
I was interacting with one of my friends sometime early this year, and he said, “With the way the Nigerian economy is, it is very difficult for an average man to own properties and a nice car.
How much will you save that will get you a nice car like a Hilux, for instance? Unless one is into business or something else, most government jobs are designed to cage people in mediocrity.
Jobs don't pay well, most people only work to eat and settle bills. There are people whose lives are like a cycle of taking debt and repaying.
That's how they survive. They take debts, when salary comes they pay then continue like that.
Someone may say that's a bad lifestyle, but you won't blame them; most of them can't do anything reasonable if they don't live that way.
Talking about savings, many people don't save anymore. The cost of living is high, people earn little, with so much budget on it, how will they save?
I am not encouraging living without savings, but let's be honest, it is not as easy as it looks.
Do I save for the future? The answer is “yes and no.” Sometimes, I save for events or projects; sometimes, I don't. Although I have been working on how to improve it.
Do I receive help from anyone? “No,” in this economy, everyone is trying to survive; mounting pressure on people to support you is not something I am okay with.
I have just been doing my thing, but I won't fail to mention that my mother has been my backbone.
I have other sources of income: apart from teaching and blogging, I am also involved in businesses that raise extra income for me.
Life is hard, people are going through a lot, but we have to survive. The current inflation is not friendly, but we will survive it if we want to.
Instead of lamenting, we should look for ways to make extra income and spend wisely, strictly on a budget. It may not make things better overnight, but I reckon that it will lessen the effect of inflation on us.
