Usually, from December to sometime around January, the weather used to be cold, we popularly call it the harmattan season in Nigeria, but last year, there was a climate change, the harmattan season only lasted for a few weeks in December in my state, and since then, what we have been experiencing is heat.
Many people said it's a sign that rain would fall early this year, but we haven't seen any sign of rain for now.
The kind of heat we are experiencing currently is something else; to make the issue worse, the power supply is also unstable. To sleep at night or day is usually a big struggle, but we just have to bear it.
I don't know about other countries and states in Nigeria, but I think the cause of this climatic change can be attributed to global warming.
If you look around, there are a lot of activities going on in our day; there are different industrial and domestic activities taking place in our environment that are harmful to the environment, but we are not paying proper attention to it because we are benefiting from them.
My fear is that if things like these continue, eventually, a time will come when our environments would completely change into something we do not expect.
Basically, we have two seasons in Nigeria: the rainy season and the dry season. We are currently in the dry season.
Ideally, we are supposed to be experiencing cold and complete dryness, then gradually heat, which will signal the coming of the rainy season, but currently, we are already experiencing heat, so maybe we are nearing the rainy season.
I love the rainy season due to how green and beautiful the environment used to look but all seasons are good and perfect, God made them for a purpose, and if any of them is taken out, we might suffer harm.
