Telecommunications is sine qua non in this great era.
It's a wonder that the world once separated by time and distance is now preserved through sound, image, and messaging. I remember those days when a long-distance call was a sacred event, how a very long queue would form by the phone booth, hearts thumping, waiting for that crackling voice to come through the line—it was the sound of science reaching across space to carry the emotions of everyone on that queue.
Then came mobile phones, texts, emails, video calls… Science had evolved because suddenly, I didn't have to wait on that queue to hear the voices of my loved ones seperated by oceans, I actually had a mobile phone in my hands to do as I wish.
I remember vividly my niece’s first steps which was streamed life, we weren’t just told stories because they lived abroad—we saw with our eyes, digitally and those memories that have become a part of us would have long faded, but now lives forever in digital vaults.
I love the science of telecommunications because of the way it connects people across distances, destroying the limitations of time and space, bridging the gap. Every call, text, WhatsApp call, video call, are like miracles to me. Communication without physical presence is made possible, lives have been saved, tragedies averted, all thanks to the science of telecommunications.
That I have a telecom device in my hands to call my friends and family, and with internet facility to connect with the unknown, is very fascinating.
Our use of laptops, mobile phones, landlines, weather information, google map etc, have all been made possible through telecom networking. Telecommunications is at its highest ever, there are more cell phones in use in the world today, there are several billion internet installations in homes, offices etc, and still a vast number of landline phones. All these points to the fact that Personal communication in the comfort of one's space, distance notwithstanding, has been one of the ground-breaking inventions of science.
