Sometimes, I ponder on the clause that says "civilization is a blessing and at the same time a curse" to humanity. This is not farfetched based on the fact that, advanced technology in our contemporary world can have their positive effect on human life as they also have adverse negative effect on that same human life.
A certain kind of technology can be used to impact educational or knowledgeable facts and that same technology can be used to destroy and poise threat to a community or a nation at large. So these things are vanity, they are based on the discipline of the human being rather than the advancement of technology because whatever happens in the 21st century is one that has to do with a person's moral, character, discipline, training and all, if they have not been tampered with.
I remember when the whole craze to have a mobile phone, and register a SIM card began back In Those Years, how people would go the extra mile just to look for money to have a personal mobile phone because that was what was trending as a new technology back then and MTN was one of the foremost network provider we had in Nigeria.
To make calls in the 90s when you could not afford a mobile phone, you had to go to mobile centers and pay a certain amount of money per minute for calls. It was a thriving business before the mobile phone became affordable to most people. The introduction of mobile phones really brought about a change in another phase of humanity.
The then president, Olusegun Obasanjo brought about this major change to the country in Nigeria and since then this has taken over other forms of communication such as pen pals writing of letters, traveling far distance when they can be handled on phone calls, sending of messages faster and so on and so forth.
At first, these network providers were really great at providing durable networks that were sustainable and long-lasting but over time they became greedy and started offering people less services for their hard-earned money by increasing their tariffs and data bundles to an expensive form that people can no longer afford.
At the beginning, buying of data for a period of 1 month was sustainable to the extent that people could not even exhaust their subscription for a month but as inflation kicked in and things got expensive around 2024/2025, things became expensive and increasingly high especially tariffs by network providers. As I speak, the data you acquire for a month is not even sustainable for a week.
To Crown it all up, I am a subscriber to the three popular networks in Nigeria which is MTN, glo and airtel, although I no longer use glo because they have poor network connection especially in the area I am staying. Sometimes, you would subscribe for a week and for 3 days straight they would seize their network totally.
Airtel on the other hand also experiences poor network performances as well as MTN but in my area MTN has a great coverage of providing network up to 4g. Although MTN tariff plans and data plans are so expensive but the leaders of our countries are less concerned with the welfare of the people that they turn a blind eye to these high tariffs that they imposed on us so we as the citizen just have to cope and endure with whatever the dish out on us.
In conclusion, out of all the Three network providers, MTN, unfortunately happens to be the best with good network coverage and with manageable data plans although expensive but better than other networks. I hear GLO has cheaper data tariffs but their network is not sustainable.
