Indeed our Society needs to talk about depression more because it has become dangerous and affects many people than usual. Depression is a common medical condition that happens to many people in the world but some people shrug it up by pretending they are okay. The condition of depression happens when people think they are okay but whenever they are in isolation it allows them to be in deep thoughts or behave in some certain ways that are not normal.
There is one stigmatization case I witnessed recently this can also pass for depression because when a person is stigmatized in the society he or she becomes depressed to the extent that they might want to even take their own life or become suicidal.
There was this lady who was a victim of contacting HIV AIDS from her sexual partner then she went to a medical facility called a clinic to have her baby because she was pregnant. However, the so called nurse in the facility, claimed that she could not deliver her child because she was HIV positive hence she did not want to have anything to do with her blood. In the course of doing these the baby died and people on the street got to know about the issue.
When this lady got to the ART clinic which is the anti-retroviral Therapy Clinic, the case managers who were in charge of her file noticed that she was being withdrawn and has weight loss. That was when the found out about the issue and the Ngo immediately took it up by arresting the woman and taking her to the police station. In the end she was made to pay a fine to the lady because she had to relocate from that community to another since people were stigmatizing her.
Based on this prompt i believe that talking about stigmatization and depression can help a lot of people in communities. This is why in my country Nigeria people don't take counseling seriously not like abroad where any small issue they refer you to a counselor or a therapist already. But here, people believe that once you show that you are weak it wull not speak well of you and reverse is the case because when you are vulnerable you should show it so that you can get the necessary help required.
This is my participation in the community weekly prompt, to join in check through this link
