Hello! 👋
Okay, let me start by pointing out one of the greatest songs about TIME in the history of the world. It's by Mike Okri, and the song title is "Time Na Money." In one way or another, I'm very sure that anyone (particularly Africans) must have come across the song, and that's because of its timelessness and well-worded lyrics.
I picked the title of this article from the song because it perfectly answers the questions for this prompt and, above all, it’s just the purest and realest definition of TIME.
Listening to this song back when we were little—especially from the radio and TV—we didn't really understand the deep meaning behind it. We were all more interested in the iconic chorus, but now, things are clearer and make more sense.
Time is actually money; time wasted is money lost. I got this understanding, and at a point, I frowned so heavily whenever I was called out to attend to something that wasn’t beneficial. At that time, it wasn’t like I was earning heavily, no, but I equated my 1 second to be ₦1,000. So anytime I found myself doing something that wasn't yielding money or wasn't beneficial to my life, I would get really upset. Yeah, it was so intense that I started ignoring some people’s calls, especially those I knew would only ask me to "come and help me do this and that." And anytime I chose to respond to those calls, I would end up spending hours—unprofitable hours!
With all this, you might think that I don’t have fun in my life. I actually do have fun—a lot—and I procrastinate too. But all these come with good checks. Take this current stage of my life, for example, where 24 hours seems to pass like 40 minutes, sometimes I literally find myself begging the day (daytime) to be extended to 20 hours, because once night comes, the only thing that matters to me is sleep. But in all this, I think what we really need is perfection in time management. Yeah, I'm trying in that aspect, but it seems like time always beats my managerial skills. Or maybe I just haven’t been steadfast enough in it.
Just yesterday (a day before I made this post), I was asking a friend, who is always busy in her offline world, how she’s coping with blogging, since she’s always occupied from morning till early night. She said, "It’s time management." Mehn, I applauded her for her time management skill. She’s someone who truly understands the value of time and money.
What are the things that waste my time?
I won’t lie—currently, there’s nothing I do that I consider a waste of time. Oh yeah, I visit social media a lot and watch football matches. These are some of the few things I consider as fun during my leisure hours, so they’re never a waste of time. After all, all work without play can make my brain very dull.
Thanks for reading.
