Huhm, where do I start from like this. Okay, some months ago when I first joined NYSC, I was just trying to find my way around and wasn't even keeping a good face cos I never wanted to serve here. But then, we've gone for CDS about twice and I was still trying to find my foot and feel at him when I was made the CDS president. It was something I wasn't expecting, that was the first clearance I will be having here, and in that same that I don't know anybody or anything I was made the CDS president.
It met me by surprise, because even my LGI who made me the president didn't know me, we've had few arguments via calls before I finally resume there but he didn't know me by face, just the name. So, I was still trying to settle and just try to fit in when I was made the president l. I just kept quiet that day, and that very day I've been hearing people gossip about me, down saying it seems I'm the shy type, some said I acted cold and all of that, but the truth is I was still trying to figure myself and where I belonged here. And that was the impression a lot of them kept about me for the first few weeks, even though later it began to change and they saw how friendly, caring and silly I can be.
So, first impression can at times mislead.
I met a friend some few months ago and I didn't like him at all the first time we met, he was acting overly confident and everything about him speaks pride and arrogance, and to be honest with you I judged him that instant, I already decided within me the type of person he is, owninwill have to be careful around him and all of that, but as he finally resumed and we had to be working together, I found out that he's actually the kind and nice type of guy. So, we can't always define, judge or even conclude based on first impressions.
One thing I would like to say is just that wherever we are and in whatever we do or are doing, we should always be ourselves, we shouldn't pretend or act who we are not. Even still there are certain things that must be part of us, such as greeting, showing concern, being kind and such will to a long way to put or have a good impression on the other person.
I'm not saying we should act what we are not, but the reason why I had to mention those things is because people see and remember negative first impressions longer. And once someone sees you with negativity and has labeled you with it, it will take a while to change it. Not to talk of those that will be seeing you for the first and last time, that impression you've given at first is what they will carry with them throughout.
So, in as much as first impressions are very important as it can be the real person too, I try my best to not judge or conclude just like that, I try to give the benefit of doubt and with time the real person shows.
