To be honest, if imagination had a speed limit, humanity would have crashed on the first turn. How wild our imagination tend to run most times never ceases to amaze me.
The moment I spotted telepathy, my mind travelled back to the werewolf novels I've read and still have stocked up in my elibrary to read, and just how much I've loved their ability to do that. Being able to reach out to each other at any given time, no matter the distance through their mind-link.
It's one of their best ability I truly admire and how helpful it has equally been to them in cases of emergencies.
Now, imagining such a world exists among humans, that would be mind-blowing. Obviously there would be no need for talking, texting and phone calls, simply pass across a message through the mind and the recipient gets the gist within milliseconds. Distance regardless.
Similarly, the rate of conflicts and misunderstandings would definitely reduce as everyone would be able to read the minds of another and know what his or her intent is.
And let's not forget, such a world would surely be a no- secret one as everyone literally has access to the thoughts going through the head of another; be it doubts, fears, hopes, ideas, name it. And that is where the downsides come in.
Yes it's good to live a transparent life, just like an open book inwhich people can attest to what you would or wouldn't be capable of doing. However, this doesn't relate to every aspect of a person's life.
That's simply infiltration of personal privacy tagged as telepathy to make it sound fancy. It's literally overwhelming, too much information about a person is laid out to the knowledge of all.
No more personal thoughts, feelings, solitude which I definitely wouldn't embrace cause at the end of the day, some things are better left unsaid...... and unknown.
Not to mention the talking aspect. Naturally, humans are lazy beings. Once there's a stress-free method of achieving a particular thing, they would go for it without thinking twice. Now if humans were to communicate with each other without having to open their lips, speaking would be a long forgotten language.
Personally, I'm a bit of a talkative so that wouldn't sit well with me and besides, the act of speaking has been long known to be the most effective means of communication and expression among humans and a telepathic world would simply blow that away.
Every good thing has its pitfalls tagging along so it's not a surprise that, despite how helpful telepathy could be, it would surely have an adverse effect on living.
