Bengalis love to eat pitha, the traditional Pitha-Puli festival always brings a different kind of joy in Bengali homes. Pitha of different flavors is common in every region of our country. However, today I will share with you the story of a pitha that is unique in taste and holds our own tradition and that is Chapa Chitai.
The most important thing is that today's pitha were made for us by my respected mother-in-law with her own hands. When the whole family enjoys a traditional food, its taste increases manifold.
What is Chapa Chitai and how is it made?
Many people may like sweet pitha, but for those who love spicy, Chapa Chitai is the name of an nectar. It is basically a great combination of rice powder yeast and dried fruits.
Ingredients: The main ingredients are Atap rice powder and specially prepared Chapa Shutki filling.
Preparation method: First, flour or yeast is made with rice powder. Then, small round balls are made and filled with delicious spicy Shutki filling.
Cooking method: This is not an oil pitha, but it is made in water steam keeping health in mind. Since it is steamed, its inside remains soft and the aroma of the Shutki inside spreads all around.
Yesterday's afternoon was different. When my mother-in-law was steaming the pitha, the whole house was filled with the familiar smell of Shutki. When the hot, steaming Chapa Chit was served on the plate, it was hard to control the greed. As soon as the pitha is broken, the mouth waters at the sight of the spicy dry filling coming out from inside.
We, the whole family, sat in a circle and ate these pithas with satisfaction. In the busyness of mechanical life, such homely arrangements and food prepared with utmost compassion refresh our minds. I will remember the taste of this cooking by my mother-in-law for a long time.
May our indigenous culture and traditional foods live on in every home. Have you ever eaten this chapa chitai? Don't forget to share your experience in the comments.
Anyway, this was my plan for today. I hope you liked the food photos I took. I will be back with more food photos like this. Wishing everyone good health, I bid farewell today. Wishing everyone good health, I bid farewell today.
