Suddenly, the bank called, the machine was broken. As soon as I stepped into the bank, my eyes fell on the CRM of Pubali Bank. The machine. Out of Service written in big letters on the screen. Customer transactions were completely stopped. With the help of the bank authorities, I started working quickly and opened the upper chamber of the machine and looked at the diagnostic screen. There were 9 different faults accumulated there at once
- REJECT CASS FULL and RETRACT BIN FULL (money is stuck or rejected and the bin is full)
- BUNCH NOTE ACCEPTOR FATAL (major fault in the note accepting unit)
- COUNTERFEIT BIN FULL (suspicious or fake note bin is full)
Seeing such a multiple fault screen while working in the field means that there is a major cash jam or mechanical blockage waiting inside.
When I went to check the cassette and bill validator units after reading the diagnostic report, the real problem came to light. As you can see in the picture, a bunch of Bangladeshi notes of 500 taka were completely twisted and stuck inside the feeder and retract bin mechanism of the machine.
Sometimes, when customers try to deposit folded, torn or excessively dirty notes together in the machine, the delicate mechanism made up of sensors and belts gets jammed. As a result, the entire cash handler unit gets locked and the machine goes into out-of-service mode to keep itself safe.
Very carefully, the stuck twisted notes had to be pulled out by hand without damaging each mechanical gear and sensor. Then the entire currency cassette had to be opened and neatly rearranged. It was quite a task of precision and patience to separate and straighten each bundle of notes and clean the currency rollers.
After an hour of intensive checking, clearing cash jams and cleaning the sensors, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. After resetting the machine's internal faults, the system returned to normal mode. When the machine was fully ready for customers again after verifying the cash re-counting data, there were smiles of relief on the faces of the bank officials.
Keeping a CRM machine running means not only eliminating mechanical faults, but also reactivating the daily urgent financial transactions of thousands of customers. These challenges of field life are the real joy of the job.
This was my arrangement for today. I hope you liked the pictures I took and the nature observations. Wishing everyone good health, I bid you farewell here today.
