Saludos a todos los amigos de esta especial comunidad promotora del buen arte en la colmena.
La calle Obispo, en la seductora Habana Vieja, hace unos años se caracterizó por ser la arteria más densa en locales que se dedicaban a comercializar las más variadas propuestas artísticas en una gran diversidad de niveles que iban desde lo más refinado y legitimador, hasta lo popular, e incluso lo más pseudoartístico.
Era una calle exuberante e inclusiva. Había de todo. Allí empecé mis primeros tintineos con el mercado del arte. Claro, estoy hablando de un mercado muy entre comillas. Pues, aunque había muy buenos espacios para la venta, no se podían considerar como galerías de alto quilate. Pero en esos "mejores" espacios era común tropezarse con obras de las llamadas "vacas sagradas" del arte cubano de esta y otras épocas. Y no eran pocos los ejemplos.
En los primeros años de este siglo, la mayoría de los locales dedicados a la venta de arte menor se transformaron súbitamente en espacios para la venta de comestibles, ropa y ferreterías, disminuyendo el ambiente artístico de la calle Obispo.
He visitado muchas veces este lugar, de mucha importancia para el país, pues es la casa matriz de los artesanos organizados, con subsedes en todas las provincias.
El movimiento de la artesanía, hace años, era muy fuerte y tenía un reconocimiento social muy elevado, y esta institución contribuyó a ese nivel.
Desde la misma acera, el interesado puede acceder a lo que se muestra dentro del local, y si quiere ir más allá, solo con empujar la puerta ya puede hacerlo.
¿Cómo se llama la galería?
Ahh, ¡disculpen! Se llama "Manos". Así de sencillo.
Aunque es fácil de deducir, le pregunté al especialista el porqué del nombre y me dijo que todo aquello surge de la habilidad de los artesanos para elaborar las piezas con la principal herramienta natural a su alcance: las las manos
La Galería Manos está especializada en la expo-venta de artesanía artística y periódicamente realiza exposiciones personales y colectivas de los afiliados al gremio, mostrando lo mejor de la artesanía en Cuba.
Muchas veces he entrado aquí y he disfrutado de verdaderas joyas de esa manifestación artística. He visto el dominio en casi todas las técnicas. Aquí he disfrutado de casi todas las técnicas y materiales.
En esta visita, tuve la oportunidad de entrar de forma diferenciada, pues todavía la exposición estaba en proceso de montaje, ya que se inauguraba el próximo día en el horario de la tarde. El especialista principal, que además de ser un muy buen artesano también es un buen pintor, se estaba tomando un receso y aprovechaba para darle unos toques de color a una de sus obras sobre un lienzo.
Con esa licencia para entrar, pude observar la diversidad de materiales que emplearon los maestros artesanos para la nuestra: metales, pasta cerámica, papel maché, barro, madera, etc. O la mezcla de muchos de ellos, hábilmente trabajados en piezas llenas de imaginación y fantasía. Verdaderas obras de arte.
El lugar está conformado por dos salas expositivas, otros espacios administrativos y un patio interior para el intercambio social. Es iluminado gracias a la cristalería, emana limpieza y sencillez, y le aporta elegancia a cada pieza que allí se exhibe.
Así que, si un día pasas cerca o por la calle Obispo, tómate un tiempo y visita la Galería MANOS para que, como yo, te deleites con la excelencia de las obras del fabuloso mundo de la artesanía que allí se exhibe.

It was an exuberant and ebullient street. inclusive. There was everything. There I began my first tinkling with the art market. Of course, I'm talking about a very quote-unquote market. Well, although there were very good spaces for sale, they could not be considered high-quality galleries. But in those "best" spaces it was common to come across works by the so-called "sacred cows" of Cuban art from this and other periods. And there were many examples.
In the first years of this century, most of the establishments dedicated to the sale of minor art were suddenly transformed into spaces for the sale of groceries, clothing and hardware stores, diminishing the artistic atmosphere of Obispo Street.
I have visited this place many times, which is very important for the country, as it is the headquarters of organized artisans, with sub-headquarters in all the provinces.
The crafts movement, Years ago, it was very strong and had a very high social recognition, and this institution contributed to that level.
From the same sidewalk, the interested party can access what is shown inside the premises, and if they want to go further, just by pushing the door they can do so.
What is the name of the gallery?
Ahh, excuse me! It's called "Hands." It's that simple.
Although it is easy to deduce, I asked the specialist the reason for the name and he told me that everything arises from the skill of the artisans to make the pieces with the main natural tool at their disposal: their hands.
The Manos Gallery is specialized in the exhibition and sale of artistic crafts and periodically holds personal and collective exhibitions of the members of the guild, showing the best of the craftsmanship in Cuba.
Many times I have entered here and have enjoyed true gems. of that artistic manifestation. I have seen mastery in almost all techniques. Here I have enjoyed almost all the techniques and materials.
On this visit, I had the opportunity to enter in a different way, since the exhibition was still in the assembly process, since it was inaugurated the next day in the afternoon. The main specialist, who in addition to being a very good craftsman is also a good painter, was taking a break and took the opportunity to add a few touches of color to one of his works on a canvas.
With that license to enter, I was able to observe the diversity of materials that the master craftsmen used for ours: metals, ceramic paste, paper mache, clay, wood, etc. Or the mixture of many of them, skillfully worked into pieces full of imagination and fantasy. True works of art.
The place is made up of two exhibition rooms, other administrative spaces and an interior patio for social exchange. It is illuminated thanks to glassware, exudes cleanliness and simplicity, and adds elegance to each piece displayed there.
