Hi Everyone,
I just premiered my Podcast: TO BE AN ARTIST, which I am aiming to bring out every Sunday, and this week's guest is Poet and Performer: Adam Lowe
Adam and I met when we performed together for Nikki Franklin's Group: Ectacies
I already Interviewed Nikki in a Previous Podcast episode, which you can find here in case you are interested:
Since I only knew Adam from our work together, and had never spoken much about his early days, I was really Interested In learning about how he got started.
He told me that ever since he was a child, he was really interested in. singing and performing, he was always in school plays, when he was a child, he attended a performing arts school for high school, where he focused on performing arts for about three years until his GSEs, after that he focused on academics until his A- Levels.
He started doing Drag around 2014, and at that point he also started to incorporate drag into his poetry performances as well.
Our work with Nikki Franklin was a welcome challenge for him, because he was used to more rehearsed Performances, and suddenly was thrown into an improvised setting.
here is a video of one of the peaces we performed at the Artwork Wakefield.
Adam realised quite early on that creating your own opportunities is very important, since there is a big focus on your personal network, when it comes to being invited to events. That led to him creating his own spaces, and own events.
we also spent a large part of the podcast talking about publishing books, Adam had published several of his own poetry, and has new work coming out soon, as well as working two days a week at a publisher.
I hope you enjoy the interview.
