Over the years the percentage of the American workforce in manufacturing has greatly reduced simply because manufacturing itself has reduced. Americans once known as the manufacturing capital of the world have seen years of decline in manufacturing.
According to Trump "America needs factories" The president describes how Americans have folded their hands and watched foreign countries steal their jobs, Factories and crashed the American dream
Now let's come to the reality For years, politicians and some economists have linked manufacturing’s long decline to stagnant wages and other factors. But what is truly responsible for the decline in America factories.
In the late 20th century America grew their interest in globalization which removed most trade barriers and improved transportation of goods which means countries now find it easy to move their goods to other countries.
Countries like China, Vietnam, and India had extra advantage of low labor cost and this means they can produce more cheaply.
Therefore this recent development made American manufacturers to look for ways to start outsourcing their production to make more profit
In the 2000s alone America shed nearly 6 million factory jobs. Such work often offered high school leavers a route to a stable, quietly prosperous life. It sustained entire cities.
Technologically Advancement also contributed factories rely on heavy machines and robots to do most of the work why this would make manufacturing more faster and efficient it also means fewer workers would be needed because one robot can simply do the work of up to four workers and can can also do it more faster.
America can rebuild its manufacturing but innovation is needed.
