ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO LEARN AND IMPROVE ONESELF ARE FROM SITUATIONS HAPPENING AROUND US
Are you still wondering how I got to learn life lessons on how to handle life-threatening situations from cockroaches in my wash sink?
One thing life has taught me is to always remain open to learning and derive powerful lessons from events, situations, and even odd experiences around me.
Today's discussion is a clear result of this understanding and its application.
The first question should be why I have cockroaches in my wash sink?
Yeah, I stay off-campus here at my University. My hostel is very close to my school and quite expensive. When we moved in, we noticed the broken walls in the kitchen cabinet and complained to the hostel management.
Later on, we noticed cockroaches at night running everywhere in the kitchen and this has really given us serious concerns, especially for health reasons.
We later gave up on complaining as they kept on procrastinating and had to cover most of our exposed kitchen utensils and foodstuffs.
MY STORY - TWO COCKROACHES IN MY WASH SINK
A few days back, while I was working on my laptop late at night, around 1 am. I heard loud flickering sounds from the kitchen and it was really disturbing my peace. I decided to check it out.
I saw two big cockroaches in my wash sink enjoying leftover food. They were surely lured in by the smell of unwashed plates I lazily left in the wash sink. They got alarmed by my presence and tried jumping out of the sink.
Surprisingly, I stood back watching and trying to figure out why they couldn't find a way out of the wash sink. I, on the other hand, could see many escape routes around the wash sink. I wondered why they couldn't see beyond the one place they were trying to climb. I laughed and went back to my desk thinking they were under pressure because of my presence.
Some minutes later, their loud noise came back again and this time I decided to chase them out. Funny enough, this time I met two of them enjoying and jumping from one plate to another.
I finally decided to put on the tap and then watch them run away. The two cockroaches went back to the old route they tried earlier and kept trying to jump out still to no avail. The second cockroach went away and decided to find another possible route while the other one kept trying the same escape route which I had blocked this time.
In no time, the second one found an escape route and jumped out, running for its dear life. While shockingly, the other one still in the wash sink fell to its back and didn't get back up. I watched closely, wondering why it never made any attempt to get back up and try other escape routes.
The cockroach laid back there and later drowned.
I still couldn't understand why this cockroach decided to lay back without standing up to find another escape route and then...the life lesson struck hard in my head.
THE LESSONS LEARNT
I walked back to my desk puzzled and then it dawned on me that the scenario with the two cockroaches can be likened to our everyday life as humans too.
The two cockroaches represent two different kinds of humans. The wash sink represents our maze, it could be that dream job, that dream relationship, which basically means that comfort so desired. The running tap water and my presence in the story can be likened to life-threatening situations like a disaster, war, a setback, fire outbreak, and many occurrences we sometimes have no control over.
SELF-GROWTH LESSON
Most times, we become too comfortable in our maze that we loose sight of what's ahead, and when hit by threatening situations in life, we give up so easily making excuses for why survival is not possible.

When life throws us shades and hit our back on the ground, how do we handle such situations? Do we fold our hands, stay on the ground level, reminisce on past glory, and make excuses, or do we get back up from the ground and look for other possible means for survival.
A man sad and thinking of excuses
In our story, the two cockroaches were comfortable in the wash sink, they felt they had all they needed until I showed up. They were both threatened, both of them decided to run for their lives, they even tried their old escape route and failed at it. The second cockroach decided not to give up, looked for other solutions and finally found a way out while the other tried the same route over and over again, and finally gave up.

Handling life-threatening situations need that "never give up" mentality approach. It sometimes happens to either make us learn what we are missing or see beyond our current limit.
I see trials and life challenges as that necessary push life gives us in order to re-strategize and open our eyes to more possibilities.
HOW TO HANDLE LIFE-THREATENING SITUATIONS?
Having the right mindset:
A man thinking of lasting solutions
"As a man thinks in his heart, so He is"
Nothing beats a man who thinks right. Mindset determines who wins or loose in life. If you think you cannot survive, trust me, even if help comes, you cannot recognize it because our thoughts determine our actions.
When we see life-threatening situations as a means to learn and become better, it places us a step ahead in overcoming.
Seek knowledge:
Knowledge is a powerful tool. Most times, overcoming certain trials and challenges might require acquiring new in-depth knowledge birth from research studies and experiences.
You might have the right mindset but without seeking knowledge on the right methods, tools, and approaches to take in certain matters, it might seem overwhelming and unproductive.

Always seek the right knowledge!!
Ask for help:
A woman getting help from trusted friends
No matter the trial and challenges faced, someone else out there has gone through the same and has solutions coupled with valid experiences. So, it is important to ask for help along the way when stuck from trusted friends and mentors.
No man is an island of knowledge.
Finally...
What will you say to that life-threatening situation? Will you back down and complain about why it is not working OR will you stand strong, re-strategize, seek knowledge and see it as a push to greatness.
Today, we ain't giving up no matter what life throws at us instead we will pick ourselves up from the ground and rise up again.
WE AIN'T GIVING UP!! WE CHOOSE TO GET BETTER DAILY NO MATTER WHAT!!
