This morning was a great start to my day. I got out fishing with a good friend and a made a new friend too. We went fishing on Blake's boat at Stampede Reservoir near Truckee, California. It was a sunrise start, nice and early. The fish were biting as soon as we dropped our lures in the water. We hit our goal of 10 Kokanee Salmon fairly quickly, but we caught a couple more and had some fun taking photos of the fish in the lupine wildflower fields along the shore of the lake.
Yup, it was the kind of morning that had me smiling ear to ear. I now have a couple Kokanee for tonight's dinner, and a few more fish in the deep freezer. Kokanee salmon is the best tasting fish in our area, in my opinion. They aren't real big, they don't put up a huge fight, but it's my favorite fish to catch because I know how happy it makes my belly.
Here's a few photos from the adventure. Some were taken with my Canon 5DS R and some were taken with my cell phone.
Just in case you're curious about the fishing details:
It was crowded out there for Stampede Reservoir. But plenty of fish were caught anyway.
Fish on!!!
Happy fishermen.
Oops, they don't call them "slime rockets" for nothing... Slippery, even when dead.
I think Blake, the boat owner, will be happy with this photo. The lupine are having a super bloom this year.
And here's me with that ear-to-ear grin. Yup, I'm looking forward to eating these two for dinner!
Blake has a YouTube channel and website, he sells handmade Kokanee lures in order to support his fishing addiction. We used some of them and they work great! piscesoutdoors.com and Pisces Outdoors YouTube Channel (adventures, how-to's, and advice).
Thank you for looking and I hope you are all having a great day too!
