First of all, you may think I'm too young to sharing advice about an important decision like what you have to study for your professional career. Besides that, the different mind troubles I had in my school life and the insecurity about what I would do after a finish high school was something that was making me crazy and I want to share those thoughts and experiences hoping some can be useful to you.
In those times, all we want (or the majority at least) was some profitable work that generates a lot of money and some of the more trending professional careers that everybody wants because at that age we always go with the majority but the truth is that this is a very important decision for a student of the age of 17-18 so you don't have to be a shame if you don't know at the time what you gonna do with your life, you have to look always to the front, ironically this is something that I repeat to myself continuously.
But now talking about what concerns us, What do you have to think before selecting a professional career? of course there are many aptitude tests you can do to get some suggestions about what to study but there are only that, SUGGESTIONS, you don't have to center all your possibilities on those options. REMEMBER THAT.
Search for it
Besides the aptitude tests can help you to filter many careers, you have to search for 3 important things:
1. People who are working in that specific area in order to ask them questions about how it is to work there! they can give you the best advice and what is the reality of the work experience.
2. How is the demand for that career in your country? this it's important to know because besides you love so much what you will be able to do, you have to be concern if that work if profitable and I don't talk about if it makes you have enormous sums of money, I'm referring to if you could find easily where to work and don't get unemployed.
3. How much would you like to study that? you see yourself studying through the years to finally work on that besides possibly you don't be the best? the answer to this one you obviously not going to find it on the internet, you have to think about it a lot and search in your heart and mind.
Study because you like to
Never study something because someone tells you, never copy what the other wants, never but never try to excel in the courses you don't like, you have to use your time and energy in the things that you like to and you are good too.
I'm talking about my experience while I was in high school, where I concentrate more on topics like mathematics, geometry and physics because everyone tells you that are the most important things you need to know in your life or if you want to go to the university! but that not true! I was good at biology, languages and history but those supposedly are too easy but those are the ones that I am using right now!
I know that at that age our decisions and the things we do are normally influenced by the trendings, but when you get a bit older you start to know yourself and your personality, you are starting to know what do you want and ignore the people that don´t give positivity to your life. I remember in the last year of High School where everybody was telling each other what they will study when I said that I will study Veterinary the men laugh at me (my friends not) but others that I think were my friend yep, and the girls defending me because it was cute lol.
But now so many people were at that time was looking me weird because of my decision, now they see me like a very important person (that's weird for me because I don't think so) and someones text me to DM to express their happiness about I'm doing well in my life and I appreciate that. So what I would be doing if I didn't choose the career I really love? just to please the concern of the others? think about that.
Practice, Practice and Practice
The practice makes the master, you have to take a real taste of what you want to do, get some real experience in order to know if that fits with you and don't gent wrong thoughts about the career. For example, I always had appreciated soo much the animals and before I decide to study veterinary medicine I went to a lot of sterilization campaigns and I spent most of my time with animals, then, when I choose the career in the very beginning I was able to go to a vet clinic and start seeing how they work, for me, it was exactly the same as Animal Planet and from then I still love the career and I don't regret anything.
Money is not everything
Certain things that stimulate you to choose a career is the money you will get by working on that, but if you don't love what you do you're not able to have that amount of money you want. Commitment and desire to study that career and the work you do in the business you are working for giving your 100% every day until you have your own capital to make your own business and then be able to change the world, THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT, IN BIG! the career that makes you feel in that way like you can make something big with it, there is where you have to point out.
The thing is I know everything it's no so easy because while in my country the public colleges are totally free, in other countries you have to invest big amounts of money in order to study, so it's known that there are a lot of recent graduates that have big debts to pay and sometimes they have to spend all their life paying it. So in that perspective of view that it's not profitable.
Although in Latinoamérica you don´t have to spend a lot of money in order to study obviously you have to invest some of it, besides that you don't have to worry about big college debts but there are many other things that affect you too (Latinoamérica it´s a hell).
Probably I´m not the best person to give you advice but I liked to share with you my experience through the process and how happy I am besides I'm in a dictatorship country, I almost finish college and I still fighting here because I don't see myself working in another thing than Veterinary medicine, literally nothing else.
