Well, here we are, another week behind us and for me it has been another list of fantastic tunes that I have been listening to in my office.
As much as I love spinning vinyl on my record player, it is simply amazing how technology has changed the way we consume music and learn about new songs and artists.
This first selection is a great example:
My wife and I cut the cord a while ago and we no longer pay for traditional cable TV. Due to that fact, we stream most of the shows we watch. Amazon Prime has this awesome feature during it's shows where if you pause during a specific segment it will tell you the actors in the scene and the title and band playing any background music.
That is how I discovered Royal Blood. I couldn't tell you the show this was featured in, but I love the fact that I was directed to it via Amazon. Gone are the days of hearing a song in a movie or tv show that totally kicked butt and not being able to find out the name of it or who sings it.
According to Spotify Royal Blood was formed in 2013 and you can definitely hear influences from The White Stripes and Black Keys in their music. Check them out!
I am digging deep into my American redneck roots on this one. I have been a fan of Florida Georgia Line ever since their first song "Cruise" dropped. Although I like all of their songs, there are some that stand out a bit more than others.
"I love my country" is one of those songs. This thing has been stuck in my head for days and I just can't help but cranking it up when it comes on in my truck.
The first time I heard it, I was adding it to my campfire tunes playlist immediately. Let me explain. My friend that we go camping with is a real Metal head and as much as I like metal, for me there is such a thing as too much metal.
I know, some of you may say "there is no such thing as too much metal", but the others with us agreed (including my friend). It was then that we decided we would each make a campfire playlist to rotate through while we were camping. Thus ensuring variety and a little bit of something that everyone could enjoy.
While I enjoy pretty much everything music-wise, at heart I am more of a mellow guy. One of my favorite albums to listen to at work is called "If we fall in love tonight" by Rod Stewart. It has pretty much every soft long song he did including "Downtown Train" (one of my all time favorites). Another great song on the album is this "Broken Arrow".
It didn't get the hype or accolades that his other hits did, but I really think this is a fantastic song. I remember when the video came out on MTV and the song has just always resonated with me since then.
Even though we haven't been camping yet this year because of Covid-19, I have been listening to my Campfire Tunes playlist a lot on my drive in to work and home each day. This is a song I added a while ago.
I had never heard of Labrinth before, but I heard someone cover this song on The Voice and immediately after the episode aired I was adding this song to my playlist.
It is a great and haunting tune. Labrinth has an amazing voice with so much emotion, you can literally feel the pain in his voice as he sings it. It is mesmerizing to me.
I have one more I wanted to share, but this is getting long, so I will save it for next week.
If you enjoyed this post, please take the time to leave a comment letting me know what you have been listening to this past week. It can be music, podcasts, audio books, anything is fair game.
