This past week has been nothing short of nuts! Even though students and staff were only here for three days this week, it was a non-stop barrage of complaints and support requests.
We had our enterprise wireless updated this past summer but we were never really able to load test it without students in the building. Instead of making things better it has been significantly worse and that is causing a lot of stress for many people in the district (especially me!).
Music this week has been more of an atmosphere type thing. I haven't really been in my office long enough to sit and actively listen to something. Instead it is something I just have playing in the background to help me focus and keep me from going insane!
Here is some of the stuff I have been digging on this week:
During the school year Jazz is an absolute staple in my music listening playbook. There is something about it that is calming but random enough to keep me on my toes. I have much respect for a well placed trumpet or saxophone blare to knock the cobwebs off my brain.
This song is not like that. It is mellow and soothing. It is actually a song that every time it comes on I just sit and listen and think to myself, this is a really great song. It is only in the last week that I actually took the time to read the name of it.
I was able to deduce (without Google Translate thank you very much), that the title of the song is The Ends Justify the Means.
If you like the easier style of Jazz check this guy out. I haven't listened to any of his other stuff yet, so don't hold it against me if he goes all experimental on you.
You might laugh, but I have been listening to a ton of the Buena Vista Social Club lately. This group is seriously scorching hot. I was turned on to the their album "Lost and Found" about a year or two ago and it has become another staple in my "worktime" playlist.
It's just some really fantastic music by some very talented musicians. I don't know if I can explain it much better than that. It was also a year or two ago that I really started digging into some of the Spanish guitar instrumental stuff and I think that is what really helped me so readily accept this style of music.
Check them out muy caliente!
Finally, I am going to leave you with this. My ride into work each day is about half an hour. Between that and heading home it gives me a good hour of contemplative music listening time.
My wife has Sirius/XM in her car and thanks to some marketing genius by them, we now get free access to the app as well. That means I can listen to Sirius/XM in my truck via Bluetooth and the app. I have been spending a lot of time listening to a "Covers" channel they have.
A lot of you are probably familiar with Hozier from his song "Take Me to Church", but he hasn't had much radio success since then. He has still been making music and this is a great example. Though I don't particularly care for Sam Smith, I do like this song and the cover Hozier did of it is absolutely fantastic.
Give it a listen and see if you agree. If you have access to the Sirius/XM app check out the Covers Channel, they "cover" a huge range of music styles, so you never quite know what they are going to throw at you next.
If you have been listening to something awesome this past week let me know about it in the comments. Better yet, write your own post and use the #whoareyoulisteningto tag!
