Me and my family, but also the family i gained and I made myself have traditions. Traditions like all the family affairs, the family holidays and the birthday traditions. We got old ones and we got new ones. The old I remember from when I was young but also the new ones, like the cake smash instead of the birtday cake blowing a candle. I love the new ones just as much as the old ones. Some are favorites some are the ones i want to skip but with a small family I just don’t, you never know when the time is up and you will regret it for the rest of your life.
We have the tradition ( or maybe its a rule, after all these years, ) that on the 1st of January 4 o’clock we have soup and meatballs at my mother in laws house with all the family, kids and partners attached. On that first day of the new year everybody tells her or his New Years resolution and the promises for that new year ahead.
We also have a tradition to make a photo onthe same spot in my hometown of Rotterdam with dad and the kids, I am not in the pictures because someone has to make the picture hahaha. And they are all very nice and the 4 kids grow up in that sequal.
The daily tradition in our home and house is :
NO TELEPHONES AT THE TABLE
We lead a very hectic and busy life and with 4 kids and 2 dogs they’re is always something to attend to or arrange. Not complaining its the truth and these modern days ( God I hear my mother in these written words ) the screens etc are a big part of our lives. Again not complaining I have a phone and use it much but with 6 humans and 4 with phone the others with a DS or a tablet its much. The past weeks, even months the screens became even more important because homeschooling was the new normal due to Covid-19. So the phones were an line to the outside world also behind a screen.
We already had the tradition to talk when we are at a table and really enjoy the dinner that has been made. So we have a tradition of no phones and we even have a wooden NO PHONES case made and there all the phones are when the table is set and nobody complaints. We talk to eachother, inform eachother, make family decisions and love the piece and quiet. Experiencing the life we all lead together apart. The older ones with college and the little ones with the things new and exciting in school and sport life.
So thats my tradition some may call it a rule but we stick to it, for the love of life and more for the family.
The case is a wooden wine box and we crafed the letters on it and there is place for all the phone and even a tablet fits.
I know some ythink its not nesseccary but we think it is, vibrating legs and pants under the table are a disturbing factor while we are dining. Well not anymore here, and 6 years in we are keeping this tradition.
This is a writing contest for lack of better term. I encourage you to accent your entry with photos or even a video but chances are I won’t even look at the video. So tell your story about the family tradition in the text of your entry.
As always, I don’t have a lot of rules and hoops you need to jump through to enter.
Up voting isn’t required and neither is re-blogging this announcement, both would be greatly appreciated but not required.
I think that about covers it as far as the contest goes; if I forgot anything I reserve the right to change things but not very likely. I always throw that in there but I don’t believe I’ve ever had to do that. Good luck!
