It’s nice weather and we have a mission. Auntie is getting a belated birthday present. We all live near do our town is the place to go today. And the sun accompanied us so we had a early start.
In Rotterdam everywhere they are building and the streets are not to be parked on with car. So we go by metro subway.
With public transport you have a carefree day out. And the price is low. All sights of our beautiful city are easily accessible by bus, tram, metro or fast ferry.
They run according to the normal timetable, with a maximum occupancy of 40 percent. Due to Covid-19. Because it will probably be busier on public transport then, it is more difficult to keep 1.5 meters away. I felt very safe and even with day of and weekend it was not to crowded. Due to Covid the rules are the new normal.
That is why everyone from the age of 13 is obliged from 1 June to wear non-medical mouth masks on public transport. This does not apply to stations, stops and platforms. Everyone here keeps 1.5 meters away from others.
The Rotterdam metro is the metro network in the Rotterdam City Region. Operation is in the hands of the Rotterdam Electric Tram. It is the oldest and largest metro network in the Netherlands. The metro network processes approximately 455,000 travelers every day. The first line opened on February 9, 1968. Since then, the metro network has expanded to 5 lines with a total length of 101 kilometers, of which 17.7 are underground and 8.5 are used as an express tram. My two oldest travel with it to school and university.
The Rotterdam metro has five lines, each with its own letter and color. The combination of letter and color are also used on the line maps and on the signage. Only the letter is used on the destination signs on the subways. The metros run every 10 minutes on all lines on weekdays and Saturday afternoons. In the evenings, Saturday morning and Sunday all day, a 15-minute timetable is used on the lines.
Line A runs on all evenings and on weekends until 10:00 am only between Kralingse Zoom ( where we entered ) and Binnenhof.
Line D runs a double frequency during rush hour and on Sunday afternoon (on Sunday afternoon only between Rotterdam Centraal and Slinge). Since the start of the network, various rolling stock series have been running on the Rotterdam metro network. It started in 1968 with a series of 27 metro trains (series 5001-5027), which was then gradually expanded over the years with equivalent sets to provide sufficient capacity for line extensions and increasing passenger numbers. When the East-West line was put into service in the 1980s, a new series of cars came into service, which could also serve on the express tram route in the Alexander district. These metro (or light rail) sets have now also been replaced. It’s always a treat and the boys live it and me too because it’s cheaper than by car😉
We bought the birthday present. We had lunch.
We also watched the city being a bit busier again and that people are happy being in the centre where things are happening. Being among others it’s nice to see. Because I have a new kitchen aid we also went to look for things for baking. I bought a round one, for apple pie. I bought a bread slede and some other small things.
Let’s cook and bake I say!
I choose blue.
I also bought #needleworkmonday patches for a new project !
All in all a great day!
And offcourse I put this public travel day in my city on the map. I did a few already and will keep doing so that you can come and visit my beautiful country even when it’s not on #sublimesunday or #beautifulsunday 😉
