I originally wanted to share how proud I was of my daughter when she began feeding homeless people on her route home at night while working at a Starbucks in Seattle when she was in college. I'll never forget the moment I realized she was taking all the food they were going to throw away (because it was a day old!) and leaving it with the people who were so appreciative it still brings tears to my eyes.
It just so happens that the daughter of one of my dearest friends is visiting for a week or so; she showed up Friday night. She's a remarkable kid, and in her first year of college (all online, ugh) ─ so "Auntie Sarah" (that would be me) is assisting with the quiet place to get in the proper mood for copious amounts of online study.
Last night, we went off into the woods to do some ceremonial work towards dedicating ourselves to a bigger purpose. We met up with a group of my friends who are a bit more of the Deep Ritual sort of folks for a Fire Ceremony. This ceremony is a blend of very ancient goddess worship with Mystery School traditions and an Apache (Shishinde) fire ceremony. It is a celebration of the primordial goddess energy that connects one to the heart and nurturing, creative aspects of the mother. It's an ancient tradition, and it's still done in private. You'll not find it written anywhere, the teachings are given through speaking only. It is pagan in origin, not Wiccan.
There was a good blend of men and women, and I had to tease my sweet companion by telling her that we would be stripping to our birthday suits (formally known as "sky-clad" for the uninitiated) at some point in the process. If I could share a picture of her face? I did have her take one once she learned I was joking. As it turns out the ceremony was fun and memorable for us both. On our way home I contemplated the power of ritual, of gathering and of personal dedication. It was then I decided to change my "proudest moment".
I wish I had a picture of my face when George Noory's people called, asking if I'd be interested in talking about The White Light Express on his show at Gaiam TV! I was completely blown away. When I was featured on #CoasttoCoast I thought that was my proudest moment, until the moment I walked on to the set at Beyond Belief. It was beyond belief for me.
Out of all the accomplishments in my life, personally and as a mother, why was this so profound?
I realized that people had become interested enough in the power of positive focused intention; that what was once considered a rare phenomenon was possibly becoming mainstream, and I was a part of that movement. When the interview was broadcast seven years ago, I was still an odd person in the "Ascension Movement". What was this thing called "prayer" and did it really work? Prayer wasn't just for the religious folks anymore and something done before dinner or when times were tough. Most of all, it didn't have to happen in a set pattern or in church. Neale Donald Walsch brought us "Conversations with God" and I brought it a step further, with the White Light Express. I am deeply proud of everyone, everywhere who has moved past the rigid belief systems preventing us from reaching out, and allowing us to hold space for each other.
As Mahatma Gandhi told us:
“Prayer is not an old woman's idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action.”
I've been the Head Conductor on the White Light Express now for nearly 20 years. Next October will be our 20 year anniversary of the first "prayer request". We had some struggles between the years, but overall, The WLE has been a huge part of my ministry. People have come and gone on what initially began as an experiment between two friends who said, "I'll pray for you if you pray for me." The gratitude that I feel for the opportunity to keep this prayer train going is intense.
