"You're a bit humorless, aren't you?"
I've been told that, on a number of past occasions... but disproportionately in connection with April Fool's Day. Which, of course, happens to be today.
"Signs of New Life!"
I never much liked this day, and back when I had a "regular" type job, I would often "call in sick" on April 1st, for no reason other than to not have to navigate the shenanigans and practical jokes at work.
After many years of rigorous contemplation and self-inquiry, I eventually arrived at the conclusion that I am not really "humorless," but I prefer what we might call "victimless humor."
There's probably another word for it... but I find situations and life at large to be funny... but I have never been able to wrap myself around the idea that something is funny when that "funny" happens at the expense of someone else.
I'm particularly baffled by the idea that someone else's public humiliation is funny. But hey, that's just me.
Droopy Daffodil
Several people who seem to "know about such things" suggest that it has something to do with empathy: If you sense someone feeling truly hurt by something you tend to be more tuned into their pain, than the humor of a situation.
"Oh, it's just a bit of harmless fun!"
Well, maybe to you it is, but you're not the one lying on the floor with a bruised knee with your clothes covered in Pepsi...
But Enough About That!
Today, we uncork a new quarter... and it also feels like we formally are starting into Spring!
As I look out my home-office window, it looks very clear that the time for the first mowing of the lawn is at hand... if only we have a day without rain. Thankfully, it's not too shaggy out there because it has been quite cold. When I looked this morning, they just had another 18 inches of new snow at the Interstate Highway pass across the Cascades... and that's very late for so much snow to fall.

In truth, I am actually looking forward to starting in on some yardwork. Not because we are "sheltering in place" due to COVID-19, but because this will be the first spring in many years that Mrs. Denmarkguy and I no longer have gallery/shop to work at... so I am not trying to manage a large yard while also being gone for nine daylight hours, six days a week.
That does make a difference! Yeah, no shit, Sherlock!
"COVID-19 Diaries," of Sorts?"
Here in the state of Washington, USA, the first COVID-19 case was diagnosed back on January 25th, so we are now actually in the fourth calendar month of having active awareness of this viral illness.
As I write these words — and there remains much uncertainty about the future — it occurred to me that these "Morning Musings" are turning into a diary of sorts... and through the immutability (hopefully!) of the blockchain, this record; these words; will be stored for future reference.
Beauty of spring
Will our grandkids care, somewhere in the future? Will they ever read these chronicles? Moreover, will these months go down in the history books as a major turning point in Human Society? Or is this just the first of a long string of increasingly dire pandemics?
I do wonder... so, for the moment, I will just continue to record the days as they unfold.
Thanks for reading, and stay safe out there!
