Some years back — when I spent rather a lot of time studying something called Sensory-Processing Sensitivity — I slowly came to the realization that I was pretty much born in a state of being perpetually overwhelmed by my surroundings and life, in general.
No, this is not some sort of whiny "woe is me" post, it's simply an observation that has helped me understand why I mostly became a hermit, of sorts.
Sometimes I find myself pausing and considering how my brain coule really use a "makeover," sometimes. Not my actual life, just my brain.
Sounds a bit absurd, I realize... and this is one of those "late night reflection" posts, made after the house is quiet and I my only company is a sleeping cat and some reflective and evocative music that makes my mind drift.
The "makeover" part mostly relates to precisely this tendency to just sit and drift, without any purposeful destination.
It's a pastime I really enjoy but it really doesn't help anyone nor serve any kind of practical purpose. At times, I wonder whether that's something that afflicts most people: What we enjoy most is of little functional use to ourselves or anyone else. Could be, right?
But what would I make my brain over into?
And is the small voice that says "Your brain could use a makeover" simply the voice of greater societal compliance pointing out to be that I am an outlier, and I don't fit in. We all have our moments of insecurity, I guess...
Our son and daughter (in their early 30's) are over from Seattle for the weekend... a bit of a treat these days where there are so many more limits and restrictions on what we can do than there used to be.
Hence, a short post, this evening... however, their visit is part of my reflection. They are "out there," dealing with the world at large, and yet they choose to come here as often as they can because they enjoy the stillness of our place. Mostly, they sleep when they are here... testament to the fact that the world is a draining place.
Maybe it the world that needs a makeover, not my brain...
Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
