It came as a surprise - The world was ending. Most refused to believe it was real but when the power went out and the descent into chaos began it became real enough.
Society broke down, tore itself apart. The streets were madness personified: Looting, mindless violence and destruction, the strong preying upon the weak - human versus human - brutality, mayhem and mindless rage. It seemed humanity wanted to cram an eternity of bad behaviour into its last twenty four hours. The final punctuation point to a history of bad behaviour.
It didn't seem like long enough to me, but that's what they'd predicted before the world-ending event occurred. I'd often wondered what 'forever' meant - I once heard the words, 'I will love you forever', spoken softly and had wondered about that span of time. I'd often wondered what forever meant - Now we all knew how long it was. Twenty four hours.
I woke this morning a morning just like other Sunday morning, and hit shuffle play on my liked songs playlist - this track came on. It's a beautiful song that I liked the moment I heard it. As it played and I went about my Sunday process it got me thinking about what words I'd say to Supergirl if the world was ending.
What would I do and what would I say?
Frustratingly I've not been able to come up with something I feel is a suitable answer. If the world was ending in twenty four hours from this moment what would I say to the significant person in my life...I'd want to be with her for sure, at the end, just like in this track, but what words would be suitable for such an occasion?
I thought it might be an interesting question to put forward to you folks to see if you were able to come up with what you might say to the significant person or people around you: Partner, children, family and so on. Please feel free to comment below and let me know as I'm really curious.
This track was written in 2019 and, interestingly, was written and recorded by [both artists] on the day they met. Pretty cool. I believe they became a couple soon after recording this track.
Michaels says:
"The song is about that person in your life who you would come back to if the world was ending, when nothing else matters and there is nothing left to hold you back."
Saxe says:
"Hopefully we are looking for our sense of compassion. My hope is that it's resonating because it connects people to the part of themselves that wants to put love first, that wants to reach out to that family member they haven't talked to in a while, or that friend."
G-dog says:
Legit.
Here's the link to the track on YouTube if you're keen to listen to it and watch the video.
Here's another link, also to YouTube, for If the world was ending - TropicRafael Remix which I also like. It's a coin toss for me which I like better but I'll go with the original. This remix has a few extra words at the 1:14 mark of the track: 'I don't care where we are I just care that we're together. I know that now. I would do anything if you would stay.' Seems like a nice thing to say with only twenty four hours of time left. But you decide. Maybe listen to both and let me know what this song makes you feel, if anything.
But if the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over and you'd stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
The sky'd be falling and I'd hold you tight
And there wouldn't be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
Right?
