Misa de Gallo, the pre-dawn masses held from December 16th till the 24th. For me, this truly ushers in the Christmas season. I'm not into all the loud stuff that accompanies this holiday season, but the nine mornings of the "Simbang Gabi" (translates night mass) are pretty special for me.
Time was when I could afford to stay up until after the mass ends (around 5am) and then go to sleep. Gone are those days. I now have morning work and I do much of online activities at night. What used to be my night mass time now has become my sleeping time.
The "Simbang Gabi" is a devotional series of masses that most folks believe is a powerful novena. Completing it would mean you'll have your wish granted. Personally, I will not debunk that belief. I'll leave you with the benefit of the doubt whether it truly grants wishes or not. There are admittedly a great number of factors why one would get his/her wish(es) granted. Hard work and conscientiousness could be reasons for it. Luck (yes, I believe in LUCK) could be another.
I am grateful for the "Simbang Gabi." I may not be physically able to attend it, but I am with it in spirit. I have attended and completed it for many years that the message still resonates within me. Simplicity, humility, kindness, and generosity are some of the traits that we should embody not just for this season but the whole year through.
I am thankful.
