When I decided it was time to go, and I had found this apartment in Smyrna, signed the lease and gave Wheat St Towers my notice, I put in my change of address with the Post office.
After the effective date, I from day one began getting mail FORWARDED to me from Wheat St, but for someone named EDDIE SMITH from the 13th floor.
I am not Eddie and I never lived on the 13th floor.
Thus began MONTHS of hassle.
I was getting this man's annuity checks. (I know because I opened one, I know that makes me a lawbreaker)
I called the old apartment building, but since I was no longer a resident, they wouldn't talk to me about it. Besides it was the US Postal service, not the apartment building.
What was happening was a resident on the 13th floor was getting the mail for this person, writing on the envelope "This person does not live here" and sending it back through the system.
THE POST OFFICE WAS DOING THIS
After many phone calls to the John Hancock Annuities co. and other businesses which were sending mail to me, and multiple trips TO THE LOCAL POST OFFICE, where I returned BUNDLES of mail for Mr Eddie Smith,
about a week ago, I started getting mail FORWARDED from Wheat St, the 13thfloor, for VALERIE SMITH.
So DAMN IT, I drove down to the PO nearest the old place, explained the situation, left them one of the two mail pieces (they took a photo of my drivers license and that envelope, and someone is supposed to call me this morning)
Then I drove to the old apartment and HALLELUJAH! I caught the regular mail person.
I showed the letter to him, I explained everything. He went into the office and asked.
¡¡¡EDDIE SMITH MOVED OUT OF THE BUILDING IN 2015!!!
Valerie also no longer lived there!
So how in the HELL did the US POSTAL SERVICE get the idea to forward all this stuff to ME?
At least now, some positive action will be taken. I just hate it that this man hasn't been getting his checks.
Is he dead? Could I lay claim to those annuities as a survivor beneficiary? 🤑
If I were able to claim that, then I might eventually be able to get this (saw it on my way home)
