It`s been a while since I listened to a new song that moved me so deeply. Today I stumbled upon Her Diamonds, a song written and sung by Rob Thomas, a song dedicated to his wife, Marisol Maldonado.
Marisol has been fighting Lyme disease for over a decade and this is not the first time that Rob Thomas addresses openly the struggles that she goes through.
The first version of this song that I heard was a bit different from the official video. Nevertheless, both versions are amazing!
.
The reason this song resonated with me was because every single line took me back to my worse days, when I thought that I had lost the battle against Lyme. The lyrics sum up in a powerful way the struggle that all Lymies go through.
While listening to the song, I was able to relate to all of it, to see and feel the depths of that plaguing pain. The soothing element was the way he incorporated his take into the song.
She sits down and stares into the distance
And it takes all night
And i know i could break her concentration
But it don't feel right
It was great to hear the spouse perspective on this issue. His approach was amazing as not many partners or family members show such unconditional support to those touched by an auto-immune disease.
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
So I sit down and I cry too
But don't let her see
Lyme bent me but I managed to stand up again and continue to have a normal life. Not many get the chance to get the support needed and to manage to get back on their feet.
That just not tonight reminded me of my whiteless nights, where I was not sure I would make it to the morning, where I fell prey to the pain cocktail and I was not able to do anything to make it go away.
The Lyme carousel ride offered everything: fear, anxiety, buckets of tears, course language, self-pity, depression, etc. There where nights when even uttering a sound seemed like an excessive task. When all my body was silently screaming in pain, a sound would have broken my concentration while I was trying to hold the fort.
Meditation was my only salvation. By mentally visualizing my body, from an external view to a cellular level, I visualized the pain. It was a challenging exercise that enabled me to gain some control over the intensity of the pain. They say pain is in the brain. Now I agree. Though I had to get acquainted with the pain first, in order to know how to deal with it.
Throughout the years we became friends and learnt not to step on each other`s toes. I make sure I do not deplete my energy levels completely and keep a balanced life style, while it keeps it promise and does not visit me too often.
This sort of agreement wasn`t done over night. It took years of fighting, relapses and crises until acceptance came into sight. From that moment on, things got more clear and we made peace.
May is the awareness month for Lyme disease. Due to the pandemic, this year I was not able to continue my awareness campaign outdoors, distribute flyers or green ribbons like in the previous years or simply talk to people about it.
My Life Story: Screwed By A Tick Mug
To be honest, I don`t know if I would have been able to take the awareness campaign outdoors this year. Lately I have been caught up on other projects and had little next to no time for my Lyme awareness campaign.
On the bright side, I am contented that most of the Lymies that I know liked the Lyme-related designs I did last year. (I will have post on them soon.)
My A-ZLYME website is still running, offering lots on info about this infamous illness, but there are no new posts on the blog since January 2020. I limited my self to only answering to comments, questions and emails.
As for posting, whenever I had some time to write something, I have done it here, on Hive.
