Last Wish

My darling, fill up my drink
as I wait for the brink of day,
can't face the truth while sober.
So please, pour out the wine!

I need to remember the rides
cause I'm afraid to be alone
before I serve my sentence,
now, at the end of days.

Promises I broke, rewards I missed,
flowers I plucked before their time,
bridges I burnt, sheets I left at dawn,
stories I haven't told a soul,
secrets I never spoke about,
everything comes to an end.

I see the sun is rising now,
it goes up as I roll down.
Joys I never had,
eyes I never saw
will miss my bandit gut;
voices I never heard nor will,
will say my name in full,
sweetest arms will hold you,
love, they`ll wipe away
the bitter tears I've caused.

My chair is waiting now,
I must go, it is the law;
thus I must pay my debt,
pay for my sins and crimes.

Don't cry for me as I get fried,
it wasn't all in vain!
You made it worth for me!
I`ll do it all again cause
my name and skill,
through you, will remain.

Whenever we hear a story about someone being a victim of an attack, robbery or even murder, our mind labels the bad guy as a terrifying monster, a criminal. We often think that inmates have way too many rights or that they should not be given a second chance.

We are blind sighted by their acts and we neglect to remember that they are humans with feelings and emotions just like us. We rarely think about the motif. Some may be suffering from a mental illness, others may simply be pushed by the circumstances to act in such way. We will never know for sure what drives one to commit a criminal act.

Life is not painted only in black and white. It`s rather a mix of grey shades as there is change in everything. Bad guys are not irremediably bad and good guys always stay good. No one is a saint. We all make mistakes.

What makes the difference between them? When the crime becomes justified in one`s mind, that is when the problems start.
