While looking for some photos on my external hard drive, I found this B&W one, which brought back a lot of memories from an amazing road trip I did from Montreal to P.E.I., close to 3000 km round trip.
Peggy`s Cove is a beautiful fishing village from Nova Scotia. Its most iconic landmark is its lighthouse: Peggy Point Lighthouse. This charming little cove is located only one hour away from Halifax, on the South shore and it was built in 1915.
None of the photos I have seen or taken do justice to this place. It is a charming little village with beautiful scenery, gorgeous coastline, delicious sea food and incredibly friendly people.
We got there around lunch time and spent a few good hours on the rocks, watching the waves and exploring the big granite rocks. The free parking lot behind at the lighthouse was full, thus we had to park in the village.
The black rocks near the lighthouse were very slippery and we were warned not to step on them. The pounding waves on the rocks were incredibly strong and could have swept away anyone who dared to go closer to the water.
Later on we took a walk down the hill heading to the village, admiring the colourful quaint old buildings. There, there were no waves and everything looked calm and peaceful as if the whole town was under a spleep spell.
The unique geology and the fantastic scenery make the lighthouse one of the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. During summer, each day, hundreds of tourists reach Peggy`s Cove and enjoy its breathtaking views. Most of them, focus solely on the lighthouse and tend to ignore this charming old village formed from less than 50 houses.
There was a wide array of attractive activities that tourists could do there: hiking trails, kayaking, whale watching, bird watching, fishing, etc.
This mesmerising cove had gift shops, restaurants and it offered some scenic views. We grabbed a coffee and some lobster which we had outside and enjoyed a magnificent sunset which inspired me to write two poems which I may post in here.
This is a place I would love to revisit one day, take some more photos and savour the fantastic sea food that I still remember the taste.
What about you? From all the places you`ve seen, which one would you like to revisit?
