Meet Red Riding Hood, or a new version of her in my latest acrylic work! In case you are one of those who wondered how she would like in her teenage years, you may like this painting.
I am really pleased with how this painting turned out given that I have passively worked on it for almost one year. Why so long? Because its texture has been build by adding layer after layer of paint until I lost count of how many layers.
Each time I had some paint left from another work, I added to this canvas. I kept on doing so until last week when I finally decided to do something about this canvas.
The problem was that each new layer added gave me a new idea about what I wanted to paint on it: an old beggar, a chubby Asian young man, a Rastafarian. etc. All sorts of characters were shaping out into my mind whenever I would add more texture to it.
This time, when I added some left over red paint, I was planning to paint a red hair woman, but a second look at the canvas once I painted the hair, got me convinced that it had to be Red Riding Hood.
My artistic process usually involves me sketching my painting, deciding on the colours prior to applying them on canvas. In Red`s case, it was different. I simply let the texture guide me. It was a fun experiment.
