Probably my first one, actually...
While waiting for the new pics, here's one of from before, when we used my old bow.
Today, we made some new tests with her new one, one of sporty, recurved persuasion. It consists of three pieces that you put together and that;s what makes it easy for us to carry it in a duffel bag. While the one on the picture takes a diagonal space in the car, making it awkward for people in there.
SO, while mine was hand-made by a local enthusiast and we had no precise way to measure its strength,hers is 22 pounds. That's what you need to pull, not the weight of the bow itself.
The thing that was new for us today was... we tried maximum distance shooting. Three arrows only, aimed at 45 degrees up.
Maximum distance is not very precise, too. Because with bows, it depends on too many things.
How long your stretch is;
What arrows you use;
Perhaps even wind...
So, here's the most curious part. It seemed to almost not matter at all. Although, I can't claim precise measuring. I just made longs strides in the sand. Let's cal those yards without pretending they are actual yards.
But still...the results were funny.
So, we shot along the length of the beach in an area where we were alone. We both used bamboo arrows with metal training tips and natural feathers. Bamboo is light and it does not reach as far as carbon.
I tried first and I was careful to make a straight line while shooting south, so that the arrow wouldn't drop in the sea, nor accidentally straight upon one of the two boats dragged upon the sandy stripe. I aimed and stayed on a line between them.
So far I had shot only at pizza-sized targets 20 to 30 yards away. With only about 5 to 10 % accuracy in the second case.
This time I was initially scared or thrilled by how high the arrow went and how distant it looked in the sky. Like one of those movies scenes was real.
Then , knowing already it was safe, made her shot in the opposite direction - north along the beach.
Generally, I pull more since I have a greater arm stretch.
The results though...amazing close.
I sent it as far as 99 yards and she sent it as far as...98.
Nice personal records for us. Time to go to sleep and dream of archers defending the beach against invasion.
Peace!
