Greetings, friends!
Quite some time has gone by before I was able to focus again on the "Western Shores" prototype for a board game.
Today I made my first draft for the actual Card Design in a way that satisfies the current rule set for the game and my own intentions.
It's hand made and not vectorized or anything yet. I just needed to be able to visualize it all.
Please, note that the black flags will be of lighter color and filled with symbols. The square terrain border allows cards to be arranged on the board, square to square, touching on any side.
And it will often times be split in two, the top part being one terrain and the bottom part being another.
The four possible combinations are:
All Land
Land-Water
Water-Land
All Water
We see the All Land case here.
Ah, also, I forgot to mention, Wildcards will be with golden border and they will fit all...On the other hand...I might abolish them altogether. Who needs wildcards when everything is wild, anyway.
So...the lower white border and all within might remain hidden once a card has been placed. But it doesn't need to be white. There's a darker version.
Some feedback on Discord made me also try a thicker terrain border at the expense of the Art Box and the two Main Rules Text Boxes. So I just added some more pencil to the paper and made new ink outlines.
Try to ignore the old outlines for this one if you can.
Hm...maybe that was too much. Something in between?
What do you think?

The painting needs a small edit.
The "Sample Rules" document I once published is no longer up do date so, for the time being, I won't publish the whole of it again. I will later try and show you a short version. What we call Reference Cards. When ready. That may take some time, though.
Since my personal priority is to improve the game design itself. Yup, that's my next goal as far as this game project is concerned. It's far from Alpha, yet. And so much work has already been done.
There is no going back from here.
Our only goal will be the...
Guess what ;) It's from a Led Zeppelin song.
Thank you for being with us!
