Greetings, Hive!
How are you doing? Did I mention I had tons of archives to work on since last summer? I think I did, a couple of times at least.
Here comes a series of photographs and a story that I began recently and was able to organize and edit today...
In the Workshop of the Most Experienced Living Artist from My Hometown
Nencho Russev is his name. He lives and works in the small town of Karnobat, Bulgaria. In a house and a yard at the foot of the hill to the south.
Portraits of Nencho Russev that I took with my small mirrorless camera. As you can see, he's a football (soccer) fan and I know him because of my father knowing him. They used to play mini-football together.
He is not a person who would compromise with his ideas and ideals. He has often been in quarrels with local authorities and he even left town for a while some time ago. He told us about a painting he made, one he called "Chasing the naked truth out of Karnobat."
Yeah, he also had his fun with all that. It's fun to be around. I know from some experience. Although I never felt quite comfortable, at the same time. One can expect a lot of honest criticism from him.
Well, we visited him with last summer when I took those photographs. She is a painter and talking about paintings, he shared he was not able to sell enough paintings to make a living and the thing that helped him work and survive was Sculpture. Of that, he has more commissions, in general. Larger pieces for parks and public areas, small pieces for trophies. He works in wood, stone, and metal.
This artwork, The Author And His Muses is a concept that we have a version of in our home, cast in metal within a smaller, square frame.
Have a look at all the pieces of art, among a few other items that line the walls of his workshop in rows and rows...
Well, as you can rightly guess, Master Rusev does not work in black and white. That was my decision, editing my photographs in such a manner. I want to leave at least a little bit of mystery for all those who would rush to his place and buy with trucks as soon as possible.
Hint — bring more trucks.
Thanks for being with us!
Yours,
Manol
