As a kid or until now, I am always fond of watching or reading anything that is full of suspense and mystery. During the earlier days, I followed the books and cartoon series of Scooby Doo and the gang. I am intrigued on how they discovered that the monsters and ghosts they got scared of were actually disguises of people who had ulterior motives.

During high school days, I started to watch crime movies and TV series. I wander off away from my homeworks just not to skip an episode of CSI. I am amazed on how investigators solve murders done by the most crooked criminal minds. Then how a minute piece of evidence could be a very significant one to lead the suspect to the crime.

Also at these times, I was also influenced by my friend to read the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys novel series. We flocked to the library to borrow some of these books, as others thought we were studying or researching.

Before, I didn't realize that I was already dreaming of becoming someone in the field of forensics or criminology. I haven't thought really of what I wanted to become when I grow up. It was only in my senior year in high school that I really pushed myself to think what I really wanted to be. So, I chose between chemistry and chemical engineering as my college degree, and eventually chose the latter. Both can be a stepping stone for my forensics dream.
As I graduated and worked, I was thinking that I was already moving away from my dream. I became hesitant since being a forensic expert means risking your life by exposing the truth and witness against the suspect in court. You might receive threats to scare you from interpreting correctly the evidence.
I may not have reached my dream, but working in manufacturing plants also brought out the investigator in me. I have handled evidences and helped in the determining the root cause of product non-conformances.
For everyone out there, dreams inspire us to be the best that we can be. There might be some detours ahead but as long as you strive to make it happen, there would be less regrets and what ifs. Let this saying from John C. Maxwell serves as inspiration to all us:
Dreams don't work unless you do.
