I'm talking about caterpillar as they turned to be harmful to our crops. For the reason of the caterpillar to be harmful to our crops thereby making many of the crops they have feed on to die and never to grow again makes me tag the caterpillar as pest to our crops. Pest are any form of insect or worm causing damages to crops.
What prompted me to put caterpillar or worm to writing was the surprise I got from my compound where small greenleaf and some other vegetables and even weeds were grown then one faithful morning I woke up to see the crops and weeds there have been eating almost all by a caterpillar. I already know caterpillar feed on crops but I didn't know they can feed on crops to cause them loosing almost all it leaves and stems within days.
To talk the look of the caterpillar I saw feeding on crops and weeds, they're long with different colors, they have two eyes looking to be red and black. Caterpillar has mouth which they use to feed on crops, the mouth of a caterpillar or worm is as sharp as razor blade. Caterpillar has has several legs which are also harmful to crops because if caterpillar crawls on any crops especially it's leaf the caterpillar legs will even damage the crops leaves. Caterpillar has a long white hair which is harmful to crops and to even human because the caterpillar hairs can be used as a self defense in case of any attack on them.
From the look of the crops attacked by caterpillar I saw numbers of feces looked to be in black shape on top a leaf of a crop. There were also some kind of urine followed with the caterpillar feces. For crops to have caterpillar feces in them it's a sign that the crop leaves having the feces will surely die. This is because caterpillar feces could be hot with some dangerous accompanied particles.
I know just 2 days before the attack the environment where this caterpillar attacked were covered with fresh leaves but I was surprised to see no fresh leaves were present during my visit. I was worried the damage such caterpillar may have caused many farmers although some crops attract caterpillar on their own by the scent and the kind of crop.
To get rid of caterpillar from our farm
It's important we maintain a good hygiene in our farm during the early stage of the attacks. Most caterpillar are usually active during the rainy season and a farmer must be ready to look after her farm during this period to avoid caterpillar attack. During the early stage of caterpillar attack they're usually few which means a farmer should easily pick them and kill them out of the farm so they'll not develop or grow other caterpillar. Spraying on our crops can equally help to keep caterpillar out of our farmland.
