Farming is a very interesting business that contributes to life existence. This makes us to keep farming through all day especially now we are in the rainy season. Raining season is a very important season for farmers to farm many crops into their various farmland.
When we farm in raining season, we expect our crops to do well but sometimes raining season comes with a bad side for farmers. Why is that there are rain that come with winds and flooding and this may not be good to most crops.
At times, we plant new crops and flooding caused by rain may take them away. At times again, we may have old cassava, yam, corn, etc, that we may be wanting to harvest very soon but wind and flooding may also take them away.
Raining season has positive and negative effect when it comes to crops. But the positive effect is superior than the negative effect.
Without further delay, as usual, it rained heavily last night. This made me to go into my farm where I planted so many crops. The reason why I do check my farm whenever it rained is because I know that rain comes with wind and flooding. Checking it will give me confidence to know how my crops are doing in the farm.
Okay, during the check of my farm today, I saw that winds fell down some of the cassava stems that I'm already planning to harvest soon. When I saw what the rain did to my cassava stems, I became angry with myself, but I later took the happening as part of experiences to witness as a farmer.
I used my hand to raise some of the cassava stems. When I was doing this, I remembered that some of them will not germinate again because the wind affected the roots. I have to leave them like that I plan to come back soon for the harvesting.
What could have caused the wind from rain to uproot cassava stems
There are so many reasons why rain or wind can uproot cassava stems. One of the reasons is that, some cassava stems may be too weak from the soil and when it rain coupled with wind, it may pool down the cassava stems from its position.
Another reason is that if the cassava stems grows too tall, when it rain coupled with wind, it may also pool down the cassava stems from the soil.
